Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The position includes developing and delivering lectures, leading tutorials and supervising student projects, as well as designing and marking assessments. You will be part of a small team of staff responsible for the delivery of the Bachelor of Design.

We have an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated educator to teach computing at the Joint Institute as part of an agreement where the University of Waikato is offering its Bachelor of Design majoring in Interface Design at the campus of Hangzhou City University in Hangzhou, China.

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and motivated individual who will bring professional and academic experience to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in teaching. You will have the skills and experience to teach computer science courses for students in the Bachelor of Design in Interface Design.

The salary will be in the range of CNY 388,000 to CNY 460,000 per year, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role, based at Hangzhou City University (NZUWI) in China.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You should hold either a master’s degree in computer science or a PhD (preferred), together with demonstrated experience teaching both large and small groups of students. To be eligible for a work permit, you must have a minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience.

This role will require the ability to teach core computer science topics for design students, including programming, software architecture, user experience design, full stack web development, and interface design for web and mobile.

All teaching is conducted in English, and experience teaching across cultures and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language are important requirements. Experience teaching in China or Asia is desirable, as is knowledge of Chinese culture.

We are proud of our Joint Institute with Hangzhou City University, which is designated as an institute authorised by the Ministry of Education to deliver University of Waikato and Hangzhou City University accredited degrees. In addition to the Finance degree, the Joint Institute offers undergraduate degrees in Design and Media. All teaching is conducted in English. Operating since 2017, the Institute in Hangzhou has 16 staff and an enrolment of 1,000 students.

About the role

Who are you?

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Digital Business, Information Systems or a related discipline, be able to demonstrate experience in teaching to large and small groups of students for whom English is not their first language and have an established publication record. Lecturer candidates are expected to demonstrate a developing research profile, including evidence of publishing success.

The Kvantti group (Superconducting Qubits and Circuit QED) at the Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University, is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of

Postdoctoral Researcher in experimental circuit QED

We are looking for a bright, motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. You should have excellent study records in physics, engineering, or related disciplines up to the level of Ph.D. (awarded or expected soon). You are energetic and confident to take initiative in the lab. Your skills can be in any area of mesoscopic physics, nanoelectronics, cryogenics, microwave electronics, circuit design, clean-room techniques, simulations, data analysis, and instrument programming.

Our group is doing research on circuits consisting of superconducting qubits and resonators - presently one of the most promising platforms for future quantum computers and quantum simulators. Moreover, we explore additional applications of these devices for emerging quantum technologies such as supersensitive detection. This field of research has had tremendous development in recent times and presently offers plenty of exciting opportunities for scientific breakthroughs.

We have several research directions in the group, with projects funded by EU, Research Council of Finland, and by Business Finland: axion detection using superconducting qubits, control of quantum computers using microwave and optical signals, and continuous-variables quantum information processing and sensing using parametric amplifiers. More details are available from the group leader. As a postdoctoral researcher you will be part of a vibrant international team striving to advance these exciting research topics, and we offer the possibility to engage in collaborations with industrial partners and other academic groups interested in quantum technologies that are part of these projects.

Your experience and ambitions

Applicants for this position should hold (or expect soon) a PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science. Applicants should preferably have prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: design and fabrication of superconducting devices, cryogenic operation and measurements, microwave electronics, numerical simulations, quantum control, and data analysis. However, we will consider candidates with experience and expertise in other nearby fields, such as quantum optics, trapped atoms/ions, nanoelectronics, NV centers, quantum materials, etc. given that a strong motivation for transiting to a new field is demonstrated.

What we offer

 A fixed-term contract will be made initially for two years. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is approx. 4229 €/month and it can increase to 4649 €/month depending on the level of experience and expertise. The contract includes occupational healthcare. The primary workplace will be the Otaniemi Campus at Aalto University.

The successful candidate will have the chance to become a top expert in the fast-developing field of quantum simulation and quantum information processing with superconducting qubits. You will have full access to the OtaNano research infrastructure for nano- and micro- technologies, comprising state-of-the-art equipment in nanofabrication, cryogenics, microscopy, and electronics. OtaNano operates the largest clean room in Northern Europe and our Low Temperature Laboratory (where the group is located) leverages unmatched expertise in cryogenics and low-noise measurements. The group is also part of the Finnish Quantum Flagship national initiative and we are active members of InstituteQ. The skills that you will develop as a postdoc are currently in very high demand both in academia and in high-tech companies - at present, there is a significant level of investment from private and governmental funding agents in the field of quantum technologies.

Description

The Center for Interacting Urban Networks, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-doctoral associate to contribute to interdisciplinary research centered on the Mobility theme. The theme is closely linked to one of NYU Abu Dhabi’s key research impact areas outlined in the Excellence 2030 Strategic Framework: Urban Systems. Specific research areas within the mobility theme include monitoring, modeling, and controlling the operations of multimodal transportation systems, new vehicle technologies, urban mobility, research at the intersection of traditional traffic flow theory and data science, the impact of cybersecurity on transportation systems, and more. 

Resposibilities:


	To undertake independent high-level scientific research.
	To publish and present the results of her/his research in high-quality conferences and journals (at least two journal papers are expected based on one year's work)
	To provide additional support to the research group as needed. 
	To provide support and assistance in the planning of research projects, preparation and writing of proposals, search for open calls, etc. (a leading role in at least one proposal is expected during a year).
	To provide support and assistance with the execution of new and/or ongoing proposals/projects to achieve proposed tasks within the established time frames.
	To provide assistance in the preparation of classes, such as collecting materials, preparing exercises for courses, and assisting with evaluation of assignments.
	To assist in teaching specific courses/sessions, including conducting labs, teaching lectures, holding office hours, reviewing and grading exercises/exams, etc.
	To provide mentoring and support to students.


Applicants must have received a PhD in engineering, computer science, urban science, applied mathematics, or a related field, with less than five years post recieving the PhD. Experience in transportation, in particular related to urban science, is required. Additionally, excellent communication skills in English, strong quantitative skills, great computational and data management skills, as well as scientific creativity are essential. Applicants with strong mathematics training are particularly encouraged to apply.

The position will also require the ability to collaborate with other researchers on other center themes, such as Fairness and Uncertainty, and contribute to a comprehensive understanding of urban systems.
