Position Description The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science at McMaster University, together with the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, invites applications for the McCall MacBain Chair in Physical Environment. This appointment is anchored in the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science with a joint appointment to the Faculty of Health Sciences. We seek a scholar whose research addresses how physical environment stressors, such as climate change, heat, air pollution, and thermal strain, affect human physical function and health across populations. The Chair's program is expected to identify vulnerability markers, generate protective guidelines, and inform behaviour-based and policy-based mitigation strategies. The work is explicitly positioned to shape environmental health standards, occupational guidelines, and global climate and health frameworks. The successful candidate will develop and lead an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, supervise and mentor trainees, and contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Chair will have access to the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) living lab and will be well positioned to build partnerships across environmental science, public health, and occupational health. This Chair is one of four McCall MacBain Chairs in Healthy Living established through a transformational $50-million endowed gift from the McCall MacBain Foundation, the largest gift ever made to a kinesiology department in Canadian university history. The gift establishes the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, a joint initiative of the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science and the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The endowed funding will be used to cover the salary and benefits for the position with any remaining funds available to support research and scholarly activities associated with the Chair, including travel, and graduate student support. The Chair will also be eligible to apply for research funds that will be available through the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute. This is a Chair appointment open to exceptional candidates at all ranks. Applications are welcome from scholars at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader in Molecular and Integrative Physiology

The Department of Kinesiology invites applications from exceptional internationally-based emerging scholars for the position of Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader in Molecular and Integrative Physiology. We welcome innovators across the breadth of physiology, from molecular and cellular through to integrative and whole-body approaches, who work to decode and optimize the interplay between exercise, nutrition, age, and disease with the goal of improving healthspan. Candidates who combine complementary approaches, or who bridge scales from the molecule to the whole organism, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to have an independent program of research, with potential for impact through collaborations within their home department or across other departments as applicable. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with tenure) depending on qualifications and experience. Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders is a $120 million investment by the Government of Canada to help institutions recruit more internationally based early career researchers in areas of strategic priority. Emerging Leaders are expected to have an independent program of research, with potential for impact through collaborations with, but not limited to, Canada Impact+ Research Chairs. Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader candidates will: hold a PhD or equivalent (a requirement of McMaster University, not the Impact+ program) in a relevant discipline be internationally based (both working and residing outside of Canada) as of July 5, 2026; be excellent emerging world-class researchers who have demonstrated research creativity; have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in their fields in the next five to ten years; have the potential to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, students and future researchers; be proposing an original, innovative research program of high quality; and be willing and able to start the position, on a full-time basis, by June 1, 2027. The emphasis is on improving healthspan, not just lifespan, and on moving discoveries from the laboratory into practice. Position Description The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science at McMaster University, together with the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, invites applications for the McCall MacBain Chair in Healthspan Research. This is an appointment anchored in the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science with a joint appointment to the Faculty of Health Sciences. We seek a leading researcher focused on understanding and extending healthspan by delaying the onset of chronic disease and preserving physical and cognitive function with aging. The Chair's program may span physiology, cognition, rehabilitation, and prevention science, with a strong emphasis on measurable functional outcomes and on interventions that promote resilience, independence, and quality of life for older adults. Work that develops rehabilitation models for aging-related conditions and that reframes how we help people live well, not just live longer, is of particular interest. The successful candidate will build and lead an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and contribute to excellence in teaching. The Chair will draw on the Institute's infrastructure, including the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) living lab and close ties to the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA), Canada's only interdisciplinary aging institute. This Chair is one of four McCall MacBain Chairs in Healthy Living established through a transformational $50-million endowed gift from the McCall MacBain Foundation, the largest gift ever made to a kinesiology department in Canadian university history. The gift establishes the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, a joint initiative of the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science and the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The endowed funding will be used to cover the salary and benefits for the position with any remaining funds available to support research and scholarly activities associated with the Chair, including travel, and graduate student support. The Chair will also be eligible to apply for research funds that will be available through the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute. This is a Chair appointment open to exceptional candidates at all ranks. Applications are welcome from scholars at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The rank and type of appointment, and the starting salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, record, and qualifications. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027.
