Desautels, Montreal was founded in 1906 as the Department of Commerce within the Faculty of Arts. The McGill School of Commerce was subsequently founded in 1920 as an independent entity. It later merged with The Graduate School of Business Administration (established in 1963) to form the Faculty of Management in 1968. Various additions were made in the 1980s, including the Management Science Research Centre, Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Centre for Strategy Studies in Organizations, Centre for International Management Studies and Canada’s first the Applied Investments Program. The 1990's and 2000's saw a great deal of expansion, including an expansion of master's programmes, and, in 2015, the first GROOC, a group-oriented version of the MOOC (massive open online course). The faculty has a roll of 2,300 undergraduates, 196 MBA students and 65 PhD students. Desautels, named after ex financier and donor Marcel Desautels, offers programmes for undergraduates including bachelor of commerce (BCom) international summer programme for visiting students (ISP) and minors for non-management students. Majors include: accounting; economics; finance; information systems; international management; labour-management relations and human resources; managing for sustainability; marketing; mathematics; organisational behaviour; statistics and strategic management. It’s also possible to take "concentrations" of various disciplines to add up to a major. There are a plethora of master's and executive programmes including: MBA; professional part-time MBA; MD/MBA; MBA/Law; MBA Japan; McGill HEC Montréal Executive MBA (EMBA); global manufacturing and supply chain management programme (GMSCM); master's of management in analytics (MMA); master's of management in finance (MMF); graduate certificate in professional accounting (GCPA Programme); international master's for health leadership (IMHL); and international master's program for managers (IMPM). The Desautels PhD programme involves four leading Montreal universities: HEC-Montreal, Concordia, UQAM, and McGill. Areas of doctoral specialisation include: accounting, finance information systems, marketing, operations management, organisational behaviour and strategy and organisation. Research activity is carried out over various centres, including: Business & Management Research Centre (BMRC); Centre for Strategy Studies in Organizations (CSSO); Desmarais Global Finance Research Centre (DGFRC); Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies; International Business Families Centre; Management Science Research Centre (MSRC); Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM); McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics and the McGill Institute of Marketing (MIM). The Professor of Natural Capital Investment and David Brand Foundation Chair in Natural Capital Investment is a senior academic leadership position. This endowed Chair recognises Dr David Brand’s international leadership in sustainability and seeks to advance research and education on natural capital and its integration into finance and investment, accounting, and economic decision making. The successful candidate will play a strategic leadership role in developing interdisciplinary research and teaching that advance the measurement, valuation, governance, and financing of natural capital across business, policy, and investment contexts. Based at Monash University Australia, the role will be a key leader in global networks to advance evidence-based policy and investment vehicles for natural capital assets, with relationships across industry, government and international organisations, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The Role and the Department A newly created role within the University Finance Team, for a Senior FP&A Manager, responsible for the timely preparation of Budgets and Forecasts at a Consolidated level, covering Income and Expenditure, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Reporting. Prerequisites of the role include forecasting accuracy through robust processes which evaluate and appraise key management information and ensuring data integrity. This position is key to delivering Financial Insight through visual representation and supporting the Universities long term financial ambition of delivering self-serving stakeholder solutions. The role sits within the Financial, Planning and Reporting (FP&R) Team, reporting into the Head of FP&A and working alongside the Reporting Manager and Reporting Analyst, who will provide essential guidance and support to achieve set objectives. Critically, attention will be given to Balance Sheet and Cashflow scenario planning through sensitivity drivers to mitigate financial risk. Other duties will include the execution of improved financial processes, management of the FP&R Calendar and associated tasks with targeted deadlines, analytical solutions, standardising university wide financial templates and stakeholder engagement. This is a role that will realise financial creativity through enhanced financial insight to aid decision making.
