Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University is a public science and technology institution located in Santosh, Tangail, central Bangladesh.
It was officially established in 2001, with academic activity commencing in October 2003. The university is named in honour of Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, a prominent political leader and Islamic scholar who first proposed the idea of a university on this site as early as 1957. The institution forms part of his legacy, combining scientific advancement with social justice. In 2024, it became Bangladesh’s second science and technology university authorised to award PhDs.
The university operates across a green, purpose-built campus in Santosh, on the grounds of Bhashani’s former Islamic university. Santosh remains an important cultural and historical centre, home to Bhashani’s mausoleum and a museum commemorating his life.
The campus spans approximately 80 acres and includes modern labs, a central library, student residences, an auditorium, sports facilities, and a student health centre. It currently serves over 5,600 students supported by around 240 academic staff.
Academically, the university comprises six faculties: engineering, life sciences, science, business studies, social science, and arts, alongside a Faculty of Veterinary Medicine located on its Sirajganj campus. It offers 19 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across diverse fields such as biotechnology and genetic engineering, food technology, information and communication technology, criminology, environmental science, pharmacy, and physiotherapy.
Research at the university is particularly active in materials science, chemistry, environmental science, and interdisciplinary fields. It maintains collaborative research relationships with universities in the United States, Japan, Saudi Arabia and beyond.
