About the opportunity

The University of Sydney School of Dentistry (Sydney Dental School) is ranked amongst the top dental schools internationally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. It has campuses in the Sydney Dental Hospital (in inner-eastern Sydney), the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital (in western Sydney), the Nepean Centre for Oral Health and outreach service-based teaching is undertaken across the state of NSW.

The Practitioner in Dentistry Level B (Lecturer) will prepare students in clinical skills required to meet eligibility requirements for completion of a degree leading to professional registration. They will exercise professional judgement on routine clinical matters to teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, including those on clinical placement. They should have a very strong clinical experience combined with an educational or management focus and may require or seek collaborative consultation for supervision from senior staff when performing novel, complex or critical tasks.

The Practitioner (Level B, Lecturer) roles in the Sydney Dental School are for general dentists or Oral Health Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Therapists with more than 3 years' experience who have already developed skills and competencies. They will generally hold primary employment (including self-employment) outside the University in public or private health settings.

The Practitioner in Dentistry Level C (Senior Lecturer) significantly contributes to clinical teaching and learning by applying their extensive clinical experience in developing and implementing contemporary, relevant and best-practice clinical skills teaching and assessment with a focus on coaching and developing students in the provision of best-practice patient care within a real or simulated clinical setting (including training in professional standards of the discipline) and related or incidental activities. They will teach and supervise mainly postgraduate students, but may also be involved in undergraduate teaching, including students on placement. They may be required to supervise/support Level 1 & 2 Practitioners and technical support staff as required.

The Practitioner (Level C, Senior Lecturer) roles in the Sydney Dental School are for Dental Specialists or Oral Health Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental Therapists in leadership roles. About us

This role is located within the King’s Experimental Research in Gambling Group (KERANGG), National Addiction Centre, IoPPN, King’s College London.

About the role

This role is designed to give the successful applicant hands on experience of an ongoing research project. The purpose of the role is to assist with the construction of a database from treatment seeking gamblers, to allow retrospective analysis of the data. This will involve working with existing clinical data, extracting key variables, and compiling into an existing database template. The second component of the role is to make contact with individuals who have indicated a willingness to take part in further research, and to send them relevant materials and keep accurate records of who has been sent materials.

The successful applicant will report to the Dr. Steve Sharman.

This is a full-time post. You will be offered an a fixed term contract to run for 6 months from the date of commencement. If the role cannot be taken up full-time (35 hours per week), there is potential for flexible working (e.g. longer time but less days per week). The successful candidate will be required to work on site in west London.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	Degree in Psychology or adjacent discipline.
	Highly organized, with a good eye for detail
	Excellent written and oral communication skills
	Experience of working with treatment seeking populations
	Experience of coding data in statistics packages such as SPSS
	Flexibility to adapt to the requirements of the project and role


Desirable criteria


	Interest in and knowledge of behavioural addiction, specifically gambling

Your personal sphere of influence:

As an university assistant prae doc, you will join the Biochemical Network Analysis group, led by Jürgen Zanghellini. The team focuses on mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing to study metabolic networks and optimize microbes for biotechnological applications.

The PhD project aims to predict the optimal compartmentalization of a production pathway to improve metabolic performance. By allocating specific reactions to distinct cellular compartments, we seek to optimize thermodynamic properties, enhance reaction efficiency, and minimize energy losses. The approach leverages compartmentalization to isolate engineered pathways, concentrate substrates and enzymes, and protect the cell from toxic intermediates.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You develop computational tools for designing optimal synthetic communities and modularized production units within microbes.
	You create software solutions and data processing pipelines for computational modeling, including data analysis and preparation of results for publication.
	You sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months and complete your thesis within the duration of the contract.
	You work on your dissertation and its completion.
	You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You contribute to the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposiums as required.
	You take on and assist with administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.


This is part of your personality:


	A completed Master's degree in Data Science, Physics, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
	Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.

About us

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Workshop Manager to partner with researchers and students working on unique projects and novel solutions. You will lead a dynamic and collaborative team across the Technical Support Services (TSS) Workshops portfolio. This team is responsible for delivering excellent client-focused support of teaching and research activities across multiple schools and faculties at the University of Sydney. This is a key leadership role, where you will use your workshop experience to make meaningful service improvement to the student experience and success of research project, in partnership with Faculty and School colleagues.

About the opportunity

The Technical Services Manager - Workshops (TSMW) is responsible for managing a Technical Support Services (TSS) Workshop that supports education and research activities across different faculties within the University of Sydney. There are several workshop buildings across campus, providing services such as fabrication, welding, machining, circuit development and assembly and bespoke equipment repair. These workshops will also assist and advise on the design suitability of bespoke equipment and components to allow for cost and time-efficient manufacture, which might include outsourcing.

The TSMW will lead the implementation of TSS strategic objectives, including fostering effective teamwork and synergies between the Workshops' teams, working collaboratively with other TSS Teams across the University to ensure alignment in ways of working, customer service excellence, fostering meaningful relationships and optimising resource utilisation.

Your key responsibilities will be to: 


	provide effective leadership, management, delegation, coordination and guidance
	lead the implementation of service improvements, service excellence and operational efficiencies within the TSS Workshops teams
	act as a cohesive link between the work area, other TSS teams, researchers and students, core research facilities, the broader University and external clients
	plan and manage the effective utilisation of resources across the designated technical areas of responsibility
	champion best practice workplace health & safety, compliance, and risk management
	oversee risk management and emergency response.


About you


	relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or trade qualification (e.g. machining, fabrication, electronics, etc.), with extensive experience in managing a diverse range of workshops in a large and complex working environment
	experience in two or more of the following: Machining/Fabrication (e.g. conventional/CNC machine tools, welding), woodworking, 3D printing; or electrical/electronics (e.g. circuit development and assembly)
	experience leading a team through organisational change
	ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
	proven track record of managing a skilled technical workforce, preferably in a Higher Education/Research Institution
