The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35%)  ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR  The field of the position is medical genetics and the language of instruction is Swedish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage. The professorship in medical genetics is associated with a research director’s position at Folkhälsan Research Centre. An appointee to the position of assistant professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience. An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide toplevel research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application deadline. The person performing the university's teaching and research position is required to master the language in which he or she must provide teaching. Successful completion of the task also requires good English language skills. When the language of instruction is Swedish, the language proficiency recommended for successfully attending to the duties of the position corresponds with level C2of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At the faculty’s discretion, level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages may be accepted as a minimum Swedish language proficiency requirement. The assistant professor /associate professor /professor participates in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in the field, including small-group and lecture-based teaching. In addition, the professor’s duties include other tasks assigned to the department. The appointee is required to participate in clinical teaching, therefore the person selected for the position must be a licensed physician or have a license to work as a doctor. The salary will be based on level 7 (assistant professor) and 8-10 (professor) of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. We require a Radiation Protection / Health and Safety Officer to join our team of health & safety professionals. In addition to specialist radiation knowledge, you will need to be able to apply general expertise in health and safety to support the University activities. The role is responsible for development, implementation and review of the radiation protection management system that ensures the University maintains its compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 Main responsibilities: In liaison with the external RPA/RWA, to provide radiation protection advice and support to a wide range of research streams, and to promote continuous improvement of measures to reduce risk and exposure to ALARP. To manage the University’s Environmental Permits for radioactive waste disposal, and to provide oversight of its radiation protection management system. In liaison with the RWA, to provide advice on the best available techniques for management and disposal of radioactive waste to ensure compliance with the University’s Permits. To coordinate provision of dosimetry across the University. To carry out internal audits and inspections of the Faculties working with ionising radiations. To develop and deliver radiation protection training. To liaise with relevant regulators, including EA, HSE, CTSA and Fire Service. To provide general health and safety advice to academic schools and professional services within the University. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of radiation protection and health and safety expertise, ideally in an education or research environment. The Department of Japanese is an established and distinguished scholarly community with a strong international tradition for the teaching of Japanese language and courses in Japanese Studies. In addition to its undergraduate BA programme in Japanese Studies, the department offers an undergraduate Minor Programme in Japanese Studies, as well as possible PhD supervision across the range of the department’s expertise.
