The Madenat Alelem University College was officially established in 2005 with permission from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. However, its origins can be traced back to 1932 when its parent Islamic teaching school was founded. The university is located in the Islamic holy city of Kadhimiya, a northern neighbourhood in Baghdad, Iraq. There are a multitude of departments at the university that students can choose to specialise in. These include accounting; anaesthesia and intensive care; biology; civil engineering; computer engineering; medical physics and law. The department of anesthesia and intensive care opened in 2017 with the support of the Iraqi Ministry of Health. It is the first of its kind in a higher education institution in Iraq. The university aims to improve medical care in Iraq by providing students with specialised anaesthesia teaching. The university’s campus is fully equipped with an extensive range of facilities. It boasts a number of specialised laboratories, various athletic yards, modern classrooms, and a library. There is also an in-campus mosque for students and staff. The Journal of Madenat Alelem University College published its first volume in 2009. The journal publishes research submitted by the university in either Arabic or English. Its research topics include biology, chemistry, engineering, law, and physics. As the capital of Iraq, Baghdad is the country’s largest city and the second largest city in the Arab World. Historically, Baghdad has been a significant centre of both Arab and Islamic civilisations, and it remains an important part of these cultures today.

Position Description Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Lecturer in French as a Foreign Language position with teaching responsibilities based at the Zayed Military University (ZMU) campus. Key Accountabilities Teaching Design and deliver undergraduate French courses, primarily within the Foundation Year. Develop engaging, gamified teaching materials, assessments and learning activities that foster critical thinking, analytical reasoning, language awareness, and students’ ability to engage in autonomous learning. Student Support and Academic Advising Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students. Support the development of students’ analytical skills. Academic and Administrative Service Participate in departmental and university service activities. Contribute to program development, curriculum review, and academic governance where appropriate. Minimum Qualifications and Experience Master’s Degree/PhD Degree preferred in French as a Foreign Language or any other relevant discipline from an accredited higher education institute. 5 years of experience in teaching French as a Foreign Language preferably within the higher education sector. Professional proficiency in English is mandatory. IELTS certification or equivalent qualification is an asset. Strong commitment to effective and student-centred teaching practices.  Readiness and capacity to supervise and mentor students. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic environment. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset. Research Fellow in High Power Fibre Lasers

A Research Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and talented researcher with a strong interest in high power fibre lasers to work on a project within the EPSRC Programme Grant on Smart Fibre-Optic High-Power Photonics (HiPPo). The HiPPo programme (https://www.hippo-laser.co.uk/) is focused on understanding how to control the properties of fibre lasers, to go beyond the “fixed” fibre lasers that are currently used in manufacturing and towards “smart” fibre lasers that are automatically reconfigured and optimised in real-time. The aim is to revolutionise manufacturing by developing the next generation of reconfigurable, scalable, resilient, power efficient, 'smart' fibre laser tools for modern day manufacturing. Our research vision for HiPPo includes the development of new smart fibre optic technologies that can handle high-power photonics applications. This includes the design and fabrication of novel fibre optic components and systems that can withstand high optical powers and enable new functionalities over a range of operating wavelengths. The primary objective of this specific project is to explore new approaches for power scaling of fibre lasers operating in the two-micron wavelength band to the kilowatt regime motivated by the needs of applications such as industrial laser processing. The project will involve close collaboration with other members of the HiPPo project team working on a range of topics in the field of high-power lasers. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in Physics, Engineering or a related discipline. Applications will also be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. Applicants should have excellent experimental and analytical skills preferably with experience in the design of fibre and/or solid-state lasers together with hands-on experience operating lasers in the multi-watt power regime. Description The Mathematics Program in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on one or more of the following topics: Mathematical Physics, Spectral Theory, Quantum Chaos, Large Graphs and Quantum Walks. Related areas such as Quantum Information can also be considered. This position is offered through the research funds of Mostafa Sabri. The Mathematics Program at NYUAD is quickly expanding, the candidate will find many international experts and postdocs with whom to interact. Weekly seminars are in place across the various research areas represented at NYUAD. The successful applicant will also receive a mobility credit to participate in conferences. Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics, with a strong background in one of the advertised topics, as well as an excellent academic record. Candidates with PhDs in Physics or Computer Science may also be considered if they willing to collaborate with mathematicians on these topics. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a full publication list, a research statement, a transcript, and at least two letters of reference, all in PDF format. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed twice. In the first interview, the candidate will give a talk summarizing earlier research. The second interview will be to discuss a research project in collaboration with Mostafa Sabri around the aforementioned topics.
