About Long Island University

Long Island University is a private university system located in New York, USA. The university was chartered in 1926 by the New York State Education Department to provide “effective and moderately priced education” to people from “all walks of life”.

It has two main campuses - LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn. LIU Brooklyn offers programmes in healthcare within the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Science, and The Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn School of Nursing. LIU Brooklyn is also home to the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts and Division I sports teams.

LIU Post is a 330-acre campus which is located 27 miles east of New York City on Long Island's Gold Coast. The campus houses the College of Veterinary Medicine, the first professional School of Accountancy, an AACSB-accredited Business School, and the theatre programme.

There are three smaller locations across New York, namely LIU Brentwood, LIU Hudson and LIU Riverhead.

There is also LIU Global which offers bachelor’s degrees around the globe. It spans eight countries on five continents, and offers courses in business, policy, humanitarian relief, social entrepreneurship, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

Students can take part in a number of different sports while attending the university such as baseball, cross country, football, lacrosse, swimming and many others.

LIU Brooklyn's student newspaper is Seawanhaka, and LIU Post's student newspaper is The Pioneer.

Notable alumni include football player Peter Nilsson and actress Denise Vasi.

Long Island University’s motto is Urbi et Orbi – “To the City and to the World.”
