We are seeking a Research Fellow in Molecular Dynamics and Computational Chemistry to join the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary research programme developing computational models to understand molecular interactions relevant to antimicrobial systems, biomolecular interfaces, and catalytic processes. The project will use molecular dynamics simulations to understand molecular mechanisms of metal-based antimicrobial systems and biomolecular interactions, supporting the design of next-generation antimicrobial materials. The role will involve performing molecular dynamics simulations and computational modelling to investigate interactions between biomolecules, materials, and catalytic systems. The postholder will develop and apply advanced simulation techniques, analyse molecular simulation data, and contribute to collaborative research combining computational modelling with experimental studies. You will also contribute to research publications, collaborative research projects, and the development of future research proposals within a multidisciplinary research environment spanning engineering, materials science, and microbiology. About you You will hold a PhD in Computational Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent professional experience). You will have experience in molecular dynamics simulations of biomolecular or materials systems, using simulation platforms such as GROMACS, NAMD, AMBER, LAMMPS, or similar tools. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: Biomolecular modelling or enzyme catalysis Metal–biomolecule or catalytic system simulations Quantum mechanical methods (e.g., DFT or QM/MM) Enhanced sampling or free-energy calculations Programming or scripting for computational research (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Bash) You will be motivated to work in a multidisciplinary research environment, collaborating with experimental scientists and computational researchers to develop innovative computational approaches that support interdisciplinary research. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Support development of sustainability solutions and applications to implement organizational green transition through project execution (experimentation, data collection, analysis and evaluation) including includes but not limited to carbon management, circular economy, renewable energy, and sustainable materials. Industry Collaboration Support collaborations with industry partners to understand problem statements and contribute to solution development Assist in project scoping by gathering technical inputs and identifying relevant capabilities within the ecosystem (IHLs, research centres, industry partners) Participate in industry meetings, discussions, and project engagements Project Execution & Support Assist in planning and executing projects to ensure timely delivery of outcomes Generate technical reports, presentations, and documentation on the development of sustainability solutions and applications Contribute to grant proposals and project submissions where required Track project progress and maintain proper documentation of activities Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ year experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering with sustainability training, or a related field or related disciplines with relevant experience in research, engineering, product development or sustainability related work. Possess understanding of sustainability concepts (e.g., LCA, carbon foot printing, resource efficiency) Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Resourceful, meticulous and problem-solving attitude. Description The Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and AI (CIDSAI) at NYU Abu Dhabi is a cross‑disciplinary hub where mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, and social scientists join forces to push the boundaries of data‑driven discovery. Our mission is two‑fold: to advance fundamental theory in probability and machine learning, and to translate those breakthroughs into high‑impact tools that serve the UAE, the wider Arab world, and global society. We are seeking a Post-doctoral Associate to join the team to work under the theme of Computational & Interactive Health under the supervision of Dr. Farah Shamout & Dr. Hanan Salam and in close collaboration with Prof. Nizar Habash. The researcher is expected to have strong machine learning & AI skills and exemplary passion and motivation to pursue multidisciplinary research at the intersection of computing and healthcare. The project has three main objectives: (a) developing robust computational methods for decision-making in health based on clinical use cases of interest, (b) building a tailored health-focused Arabic knowledge interactive language model through the development of benchmark datasets, evaluation frameworks, and specialized LLMs and AI agents, and finally (c) designing specialized interactive multimodal multi-lingual natural interfaces.
