Description The Research Laboratory of Prof. Serdal Kirmizialtin, in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), seeks to appoint a talented researcher with an excellent record of academic success for a Post-Doctoral Associate position. The research will focus on the development and use of machine learning and advanced molecular dynamics techniques for molecular simulations and to study Nucleic acids structures and their interactions. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or related field, and is less than 5 after his receiving his their PhD. years , with extensive experience in the application of molecular dynamics simulations to molecular systems, ideally in both methods and applications. Experience in biomolecular simulations particularly nucleic acid simulations is desirable. An ideal candidate should have a solid background in physics and chemistry, particularly in the area of statistical mechanics with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent record of research accomplishments. Experience with modern sampling techniques such as metadynamics, UFED, path sampling, milestoning methods; machine learning applications in chemistry and biophysics, good computer programming skills, and working knowledge of UNIX, phyton, and shell scripting is highly desired. Experience in molecular simulation softwares and analysis tools such as Gromacs, PLUMED and OpenMM will be very valuable. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge resources in a collaborative research environment between the campuses of New York University and the members of the NYUAD research community. A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Plumbing and Heating Technician to join the newly-restructured Maintenance Services team at the University of Surrey. Working as part of a team responsible for the operational maintenance of University premises, you will be undertaking planned and reactive work on Mechanical systems to support the University’s infrastructure and environmental control systems across all our premises, ensuring that they are maintained in a safe, efficient, and functional order. You'll be required to support our current day pattern of 08.00 – 16.12 Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities include: Maintain all Mechanical systems, including statutory inspection and testing where required, to meet current legislative requirements. Ensure failing plant or assets are reported to the Helpdesk and plant areas are maintained in good condition. Deliver an effective and timely response to maintenance demands across the University in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensure compliance with all University Health and Safety and Environmental systems and procedures, and take an active part in the development of these policies Ensure the use of equipment and materials in delivery of maintenance services are appropriate and meet current legislative standards. Keep up to date with Mechanical related legislation and developments, attending courses and passing all necessary exams to maintain professional accreditation. Carry out multi-skilled tasks, where relevant, such as (but not restricted to) Electrical isolation and fault finding, minor carpentry, redecoration repairs linked to maintenance work. Complete all administrative work associated with departmental management systems, including the completion of work records, timesheets, stores issues, estimates and health & safety records. Utilise Building Logbook to record all maintenance visits and any relevant defective information and repairs. All defects to be reported immediately to the help desk for further action. You’ll need good planning, organising and prioritising skills, and will be expected to tackle more complex tasks, take on additional responsibilities and communicate effectively at a senior level. The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in consumer society research The successful applicant may be appointed to a permanent professorship or a fixed-term associate professorship / assistant professorship (tenure track system), depending on qualifications and career stage. We invite applications from candidates with an internationally recognised track record in research on consumption and consumer society. The appointee is expected to contribute to theoretical and conceptual advancements in understanding consumer society, more specifically the socio-economic implications of consumer culture, the development of new markets, and the evolution of consumption. We welcome applications that situate consumption within the broader transformations of the global political economy. Issues such as geopolitical tensions, industrial policy, debates over strategic autonomy, and the restructuring of global supply chains are increasingly shaping consumer societies. In keeping with the Centre’s national tasks, we value research and public engagement that benefit policymaking, innovation, and the promotion of consumer literacy. Former experience of leading and managing academic work is a significant merit for this appointment. While a successful candidate is expected to have a record of publications addressed to international scholarly audiences, we appreciate the ability to collaborate in an environment in which Finnish or Swedish is the working language. DUTIES The appointee will deliver top-level research-based teaching, supervise theses and dissertations. The appointee is expected to have a demonstrated ability to secure external funding, an international network of relevant research collaboration, and sufficient managerial skills for leading academic work. The position’s teaching includes the development of several new course offerings and an ongoing commitment to make them an inherent part of CCSR’s pedagogical future. The applicant will be expected to take a leadership role in developing consumer studies as part of current or future degree programs. QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate shall have a doctorate in an applicable social science field. The doctoral degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline. An appointee to the position of assistant professor / associate professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills required for the position. In addition, the appointee shall have the capacity and potential to pursue an academic career at a high level, as demonstrated by publications and other means. In assessing the applicants’ qualifications, attention shall be paid to scientific publications and research, teaching experience and qualifications, international experience and collaborations, and success in the acquisition of external research funding. An appointee to the position of professor shall hold a doctoral degree and have high-level academic qualifications; experience in leading scientific research; the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise dissertations and theses; as well as evidence of international cooperation in the research field they represent. The appointee shall also have academic leadership skills. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. It investigates from a social scientific perspective the challenges consumer society faces, issues of growth, energy use and sustainability, the tensions and contradictions of digitalisation, and the development of consumer citizenship. While the Centre is endowed with funding from the Finnish Ministry of Education to fulfil its core tasks, it has also been highly successful in securing competitive external funding from, among others, the Finnish Strategic Research Council, Horizon Europe, and Business Finland. Our highly motivated team of more than 40 researchers from various social scientific disciplines is curiosity-driven, problem-oriented, and cross-disciplinary.
