The Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science are seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to work on a two-year research programme on hydration and health. The successful candidate will work alongside Professor Neil Walsh and his team on an industry-funded research programme extending recently published work. You will be expected to assist in all aspects of the programme of work, including: study design; ethical approval; the day-to-day running and administration of the research project; the implementation of interventions; assisting in the collection and interpretation of data; and the production of technical reports and manuscripts for publication. You will hold a good honours degree (First or 2.1) in a relevant subject area e.g., nutrition, human physiology, health psychology, exercise science. Experience of conducting high quality research is essential. A master’s postgraduate degree is desirable, as is experience of biological sample collection (e.g., venous blood), handling, storage (in accordance with GLP), biochemical analysis and an awareness of quality control techniques. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise a continuously demanding workload. The group’s research combines the development of scalable photonic quantum technology for quantum computing and other quantum information applications with the investigation of fundamental quantum science questions. The main activities reach from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces. The Walther Group unites an international team of scientists who are passionate about research in quantum optics, quantum information and quantum technologies.
