Sustainability is at the core of Aalto's mission, and The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2) aims to be at the forefront of research, development and teaching in sustainable biobased materials. As part of a sustainable future, many products in our living environment will increasingly utilize components derived from wood and other biobased sources. These form an integral part of the forest products value chain, with strategic importance to Finland and Europe. It is crucial that we educate imaginative and resourceful engineers able to develop solutions across the biobased materials’ value chains, respecting the tenets of social, economic and environmental sustainability. At the same time there is a need to educate a wider audience besides our degree students, and therefore learning opportunities should be developed to be more accessible. As a result, CHEM has an ambitious plan to further develop and deliver an accessible, multi-platform, teaching portfolio. The Bio2 department and other departments within CHEM are working at the forefront of research and teaching in sustainable biobased materials. To complement our expertise, we are seeking a University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer with in-depth knowledge of sustainability in biobased materials who is ready to take on responsibilities in life-wide learning teaching. Role and goals The aim of the role is to teach life-wide / continuous learners and undergraduate students. In practice this means that selected current and future courses in the curriculum will be opened up to a wider audience, for example, in the form of online courses. The duties involve, to: Coordinate, develop and deliver engaging courses in life-wide learning with our academic staff, focusing on the integration of sustainability, circularity and cutting-edge materials science. Employ digital platforms to enhance teaching methods and course accessibility. Participate actively in course development, ensuring offerings are up to date with industry practices and advancements. Collaborate with fellow faculty to enrich the educational impact on our students and learners. The candidate will be expected to develop teaching on sustainability and related topics, both independently and in collaboration with Aalto professors, lecturers and researchers in the field. In some cases, the successful candidate will be responsible for setting learning objectives, developing creative teaching methodologies, evaluating student performance, and processing feedback. In a team-oriented environment, the successful candidate will work to build first-class education and excellent student experience. Depending on the candidate’s background, they will be teaching on some of our existing online courses, as well as courses that are to be developed. These courses cover topics including sustainability, biorefining, paper and packaging, biotechnology, textiles, wood material science and mechanics of biobased materials. Involvement in university research is encouraged. This may include participation in research projects, publication, and involvement in funding applications. Description We are looking to hire a Junior Research Scientist or engineer to help us design and build novel systems and tools for decision-making support. A successful candidate should be able to design and implement systems and tools as well as demonstrate their efficacy through comparative performance evaluations or user studies. They should be able to work independently or as part of a team, depending on the project's scope. As we publicly share all our code and data artifacts, good coding & reproducible experimentation practices are a must. We meet frequently to provide short status updates and have regular technical 1-1s to dive deep into research problems. Successful RAs or REs present their work, progress, and challenges concisely and clearly. They should be keen about publishing their work and findings and strive to meet deadlines. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. The candidate should also demonstrate experience and excellence in systems or tool building, algorithmic thinking, and research. The ability to program in Python, C++, and other frameworks is a must. Comfort with declarative programming, SQL, and data management is highly desired. The job description further outlines desired skill sets, including the completion of advanced courses or projects in systems, HCI, or AI/ML. About the role We are seeking an organised, detail‑oriented Clinical Research Data Integration Coordinator to work within the Cancer B‑cell Group on the CRUK Accelerator Programme “Early Cancer Research Initiative Network on Monoclonal B‑cell Lymphocytosis (ECRIN‑M3)”, led by Professor Francesco Forconi. You will be based in the School of Cancer Sciences, working closely with clinicians, scientists and data specialists to turn real‑world clinical information into clean, analysis‑ready research datasets from patients with leukaemia (e.g. Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia) and lymphomas (e.g. Follicular lymphoma). Your primary responsibility will be to systematically extract and curate clinical data from medical records (electronic patient record systems and, where applicable, paper notes) and integrate these data into research databases and linked study systems. You will play a central role in maintaining data quality, provenance, and completeness, ensuring robust, reproducible data flows from recruiting sites. For candidates with relevant interest and experience, there will be opportunities to contribute to analysis support (e.g., descriptive analyses, QC/consistency checks, basic survival summaries) and to develop/manage data pipelines (ETL, validation rules, automation, dashboards) in collaboration with the Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU). What you’ll do Extract and abstract clinical variables from medical records into structured formats aligned to the protocol and data dictionaries. Curate, validate and reconcile clinical data with laboratory/biomarker and study datasets; resolve data queries with clinical teams. Integrate data into research repositories (e.g., BC Platforms) following SOPs, with clear documentation of provenance and versioning. Maintain data dictionaries, mapping tables and coding standards. Monitor completeness and quality; run routine QC/consistency checks; manage data corrections and audit trails. Liaise with recruiting sites, research nurses and international collaborators to support timely, accurate data flows. Adhere to information governance, confidentiality and research ethics requirements (e.g., GDPR, ethical approvals, data access controls). Contribute to analyses, dashboards and automated validation/ETL pipelines using SQL/Excel and/or R/Python, support simple visualisations and reports for investigators. About you Experience extracting/abstracting data from electronic medical records and/or clinical notes into structured datasets. It is a highly specialized workplace on the issue of vascular diseases. The main activities are vascular-surgical programs. In cooperation with interventional radiologists and angiologists, the clinic provides comprehensive care for vascular patients, including 24-hour permanent service for acute vascular events within the region and supraregionally. As an accredited workplace, it provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in vascular surgery, is involved in scientific research activities and participates in the solution of international randomized multicenter studies.
