KAIST has connotations of academic excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship, but also the launch of large-scale projects. The university often ranks highly among other universities of a similar age.


KAIST was established in February 1971 as Korea Advanced Institute of Science, with a loan given by United States Agency for International Development. The university aimed not only to educate young researchers in science and engineering, but also to provide a solid basis for the development of future higher education institutions in Korea.

Its structure was created by an international team, which included the American electrical engineer and vice-president of Stanford University Frederick Emmons Terman. Unlike other public institutions in South Korea, KAIST has freedom to decide upon its entry requirements and course structure, which gives the university a special status.

Today, KAIST has a rich academic portfolio in disciplines such as physics, mathematics, engineering, humanities and social sciences, business and management. The courses are delivered by 6 colleges and 2 schools, with over 33 divisions. KAIST’s unique institutes include the National NanoFab Center, which conducts research into nano-devices and their potential applications.

KAIST consists of 2 major campuses situated in Daejeon and South Korea’s capital Seoul. They offer over 25 dormitories, 4 libraries and a medical centre. To ensure students are actively engaged in the campus cultural events, the university organises traditional opera and jazz recitals.

He/She should also have wide experience in Dental Technology, preferably with comprehensive skills in Prosthodontic, Orthodontic, and Digital Dental Technology (such as orthodontic appliances, virtual models, digital set-up, CAD/CAM and 3D printing technologies). Recent experience in teaching Dental Technology and a demonstrable interest in research and development in the field would be advantageous. The appointee will teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, participate in patient care and technique development, and contribute to administrative duties. Job Purpose As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on industry innovation research where you will support all aspects of the project to investigate neuroplasticity and recovery of movement quality after stroke using multimodal functional brain imaging and 3D human kinematics. This funded research brings together multidisciplinary expertise from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), National University of Singapore (NUS), National University Hospital (NUH), University of Glasgow (UOG), Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in the areas of Neuroscience, Psychology, Movement Science and Rehabilitation. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Prepare data collection forms/interview questions/questionnaire and recruit and/or interview subjects. Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary. Perform computational modelling and analysis of the neuroimaging and behavioural data, with guidance from senior colleagues as required. Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor. Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies, foundations and Ethics Committee review. Prepare progress reports for the PI and funding agency. Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations. Coordinate and attend project meetings, monitor the project budget and work on other projects and initiatives, as required. Conduct literature reviews for publications and research briefings. Contribute to the dissemination of research findings (e.g., journal, conference, book). Support and collaborate with research assistants, graduate and undergraduate students, where applicable. Work in a team, contribute to the identification of possible funding sources and/or the planning and development of externally funded research proposals in an area relevant to the project. Perform other research-related tasks as required by the Principal Investigator. Job Requirements A good degree in relevant discipline (e.g. experimental psychology, biopsychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, neurology, psychiatry, cognitive neuroscience, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, physics or related fields). A PhD* (or equivalent research experience) in a relevant subject (only for Research Fellow position). Candidates with a non-healthcare degree are welcome to apply. Familiarity with image data analysis tools such as SPM, FSL, AFNI, and/or DSIStudio etc will be an advantage. Signal processing and programming skills (e.g. with Matlab, Python) will be an advantage. Ability to use statistical packages such as SPSS, R for statistical analyses and visualisation will be an advantage. Some research and/or clinical experience/interest in the area of stroke rehabilitation or care will be an advantage. Key Competencies Good scientific writing skills with relevant publications will be an advantage. Strong ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Experience of supporting research projects and bringing them to successful completion. Possesses sound judgment and superior decision-making and problem-solving skills. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. Organisation Chart The research staff will report to Assistant Professor Choo Pei Ling. Major Challenges Some parts of the work (e.g. data collection, analysis) may be held at external sites (e.g. NUS, NTU) which may require swab testing prior to entry. Applications are invited for the above post in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department. The department delivers an undergraduate programme that is jointly accredited across the Nottingham campuses in the United Kingdom, Malaysia and China. It is expected that the successful candidate will support excellence in teaching in the Department and across the three campuses, while developing an internationally recognised research programme. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and post-doctoral academic research experience in a field related to electrical and electronic engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in communications or photonics technologies; although excellent candidates in any research area with the ability to teach across a range of topics in our undergraduate curriculum will be considered. It is required that the candidate has strong academic experience and evidence of strong track record in his or her area of research. The appointment will be offered to the best qualified candidate based on their track record relative to their experience with the position being offered at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to lead and deliver individual and collaborative research and teaching in the area of electrical and electronic engineering, particularly on VLSI/Embedded System and contribute to the direction of research programmes in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The role will be responsible for generating new intellectual understanding/knowledge through the application of knowledge and for developing ideas for application of research and teaching outcomes. The post holder will develop new concepts and ideas and will be expected, where appropriate, to develop and win support for innovative research and/or teaching development proposals and funding bids. The post holder will make a significant contribution to their academic unit via leadership and/or administrative management and/or co-ordination of specific initiatives. Salary will be within the range of 635,038 RMB to 780,622 RMB (Associate Professor) or RMB 450,190 to RMB 592,815 (Assistant Professor) per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including employment support allowance, schooling and insurance will be provided for international appointments. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project where you will be part of the research team to develop yeast and fungi for food ingredient and biochemical production. The specific goals are: Metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts for organic acid production Design and optimization of fermentation method in 10L and 100L stirred tank vessels Key Responsibilities: Fulfill the primary responsibilities within the project: i. Deliver structured presentations of research plans and findings every two weeks. ii. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior research engineers and undergraduate students working in the same research field. iii. Prepare scientific manuscripts for reporting and potential publication (as first or co-author). Prepare writeup for new research grant application Support undergraduate lab class conduct where applied research outcomes are utilized in undergraduate teaching. Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure adherence to work, safety, and health regulations for all research activities. Coordinate procurement activities with licensed vendors for research items. Job Requirements: Have a relevant PhD degree in Biochemistry or Biochemical Engineering Have at least 1 year experience with the metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts, including foreign gene expression and gene deletion. Have at least 1 year experience with the use of bioreactor, HPLC-MS and GC-MS. Prior experience in the genetic manipulation of filamentous fungi cell line engineering is advantageous.
