We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher with experience and expertise in synthetic transition metal chemistry, to be based in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton as part of the group of Prof. Gill Reid (G.Reid@soton.ac.uk). This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the EXPRESS (Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors) Programme Grant recently announced by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). EXPRESS is a large (£10M) flagship, interdisciplinary research programme over 5-years. It is led jointly by the Universities of Southampton and Warwick, alongside several international and industrial partners, and brings together internationally leading teams from across chemistry, physics and electronic engineering. It aims to deliver a step-change in the understanding and control of electrochemical growth of high-quality mono/few-layer functional transition metal dichalcogenides TMDCs, combining precursor design and synthesis, electrochemistry, solution and surface computation, advanced characterisation and device integration. In addition to the essential disciplinary research skills, candidates should demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for collaborative working, the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, and well-developed organisational skills. In this role your primary focus will be the synthesis, spectroscopic and structural characterisation of a range of new molecular complexes that contain the pre-assembled metal dichalcogenide (ME2) building block that forms the target TMDC. You will work in close collaboration with the electrochemistry experts who will investigate their effectiveness as single source precursors for the electrodeposition range of high quality semi-conducting and semi-metallic TMDCs. You will be required to be flexible and interact effectively with colleagues across the wider EXPRESS consortium to fulfil the scientific goals of the Programme. The position is offered for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 further years. Our research integrates cellular and molecular biology, genomics, neuroimaging, and anatomical, physiological, and pharmacological approaches in human and animal models. Our goal is to translate basic and clinical neuroscience discoveries into new therapies and clinical applications that improve health and well-being. Key focus areas include neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, and neuropsychiatric disorders, movement disorders, neuroinflammatory conditions, headache, pain, and spinal cord injury. Neuroscience theme members deliver research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, incorporating both research and educational expertise to help develop the next generation of research leaders in medical sciences, as well as training leaders in healthcare, dentistry and medicine. We are seeking a Lecturer to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design, and evaluation, while continuing to build their research contribution either independently, or in collaboration with one of our many neuroscience research teams. They will grow their expertise, and impact within the discipline. The role will contribute significantly to the strategic research and educational goals of the school and faculty. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This role supports the Future Ship and System Design (FSSD) Programme, which aims to accelerate the decarbonisation and digitalisation of Singapore’s maritime sector. The project focuses on developing planning methods to support the electrification of harbour craft fleets, using real-world operational data to derive charging demand profiles and infrastructure recommendations. As part of this work, we are seeking a Research Fellow to lead the development of a user-friendly GUI tool that will enable stakeholders to interact with planning models and visualise simulation outputs. The RF will also support increasing coordination between different projects as the number of case studies and incoming datasets continues to grow. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop a GUI tool to make model inputs/outputs accessible to end-users Collaborate with project leads and researchers to ensure technical accuracy of the interface Support integration of simulation outputs across Projects 3-1 and 3-2 Manage and process large sets of operational data for case study analysis Contribute expertise in power grid optimisation to enhance planning models Participate in stakeholder engagements and respond to evolving technical needs Job Requirements: A strong background in power systems, energy modelling, or grid optimisation Proficiency in GUI development (e.g. using Python Dash, Tkinter, or web-based frameworks) Experience working with data-driven simulation and model validation in power grids (Ph.D level is mandatory) Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment Prior exposure to maritime or transport-related electrification studies is a plus
