Your personal sphere of influence: Two predoctoral university assistant positions within the research team of Professor Folker Hanusch are currently vacant. The positions are situated within the Journalism Studies Center at the Department of Communication, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna. The JSC has built a very good reputation in journalism studies over the past ten years, which is characterized by evidence-based work on a range of transformative developments in journalism at an international and national level. The Journalism Studies Center’s current research agenda focuses on 1) the comparative analysis of journalism cultures, 2) the influence of peripheral actors on journalism, 3) the audience expectations of news and trust in journalism, 4) diversity and activism in journalism, and 5) the role of subfields like lifestyle journalism, indigenous journalism, participative and constructive journalism. Interest in one or more of these areas, or in related topics, is an advantage for an application, but at a minimum a clear interest in journalism studies should exist. The team currently consists, in addition to the professorship, of one tenure-track professor, one senior lecturer position, one postdoctoral researcher, two prae-docs, one student assistant, and one administrative staff member. What characterizes us as a team is a highly collegial way of working, curiosity about new phenomena in journalism studies, and a commitment to internationally excellent research. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means: You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of journalism studies. You contribute to the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposia and support project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding. You publish in academic journals, and present the results at relevant (international) conferences. You work on your dissertation and its completion in the area of journalism studies under the supervision of Professor Folker Hanusch. We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. You teach courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration. This is part of your personality: You have obtained a completed MA / Magister degree in Communication and Journalism Studies or a related discipline. Interest in one or more of the research areas mentioned above is an advantage. Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods in journalism studies. Competence in data analysis; familiarity with SPSS, R and/or MAXQDA is an advantage. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements A good degree in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications like registered PE/CEng would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience with mechanical systems in Building services environments or facility design consultancy would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Both design and management of mechanical building systems. Use of BIM software for design and engineering works and develop BIM models as well as knowledge in using CAD software such as REVIT, AutoDesk and ArchiCAD. Have working knowledge of building services systems such as Heat Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, lift, heat exchangers, micro-climate, simulations, fire-testing and acoustic experiments Have prior working experience in building and facility management Having experience with materials and materials property as well as materials testing, and fire testing is advantageous. Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT as well as experience with Green Marking and energy management is advantageous. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

Research Fellow in Cancer Immunotherapy

Project summary An exciting opportunity is available to join the laboratories of Dr Salah Mansour and Dr Ali Roghanian at the University of Southampton. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated postdoctoral scientist to work on our Blood Cancer UK-funded programme developing next-generation, off-the-shelf immunotherapies for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). This three-year project will harness cytotoxic invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells for precision targeting of AML, an aggressive leukaemia with poor survival outcomes. Building on strong preliminary data, it combines mechanistic and translational immunology with bespoke in vivo models to define and exploit therapeutically relevant subsets. The Research Fellow will lead studies on cytotoxic T cell mechanisms, oversee preclinical validation, and advance CAR-iNKT platforms optimised for AML immunotherapy. The role bridges basic and translational research and suits a creative scientist with interests in tumour immunology, T cell engineering, and immunotherapy. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning immunology, and bioinformatics, with access to advanced flow cytometry, 10X Genomics, in vivo imaging platforms. Key responsibilities To work within the Mansour and Roghanian labs, and with collaborators at Southampton and beyond. To design, conduct, and analyse in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments. To lead the optimisation and functional assessment of human T cells and CAR T cells. To liaise and coordinate between project collaborators and core facilities. To record analyses accurately and present results at group meetings, national, and international conferences. To contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and grant applications. To supervise and support junior researchers and students. Any other duties appropriate to the scope and grade of the post. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, collaborate on others, and guide PhD and Master’s students. Essential qualifications, experience and competencies PhD (or near completion) in human T cell immunology, cancer biology, or a related discipline. Strong practical experience with core immunological assays (e.g. FACS, ELISA, T cell assays). Proven competence in the design and execution of experiments using mouse models of cancer. Ability to manage projects to timelines, supervise junior staff, and work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including at conferences. Desirable Experience with single-cell or bulk sequencing (e.g. 10X Genomics, RNA-seq). Familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines and large dataset interpretation.
