About the Role

You will contribute to the research efforts of the Future Industries Institute, and in particular will undertake research on the project titled “Ferromagnetic nanoparticles for targeted hyperthermia treatment of glioblastoma” via a Collaboration Agreement between the University of Newcastle and the University of South Australia.

You will work to achieve project grant outcomes and will have experience in cell culture and assays related to cytotoxicity (especially DNA damage) in a nanomedicine context.

The Faculty of Psychology consists of the Dean’s office and the studies service center, as well as Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology, Department of Occupational, Economic and Social Psychology, the Department of Applied Psychology: Work, Education and Economy, Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice. Currently, nearly 3,500 students of Psychology are enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programmes, attending nearly 200 courses per semester, which are taught and supervised by 220 teachers.

As a university assistant prae doc, you will join the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology.

The Department consists of approximately 100 staff members organized in eight research units with fMRI, EEG, fNIRS, VR, eye-tracking, physiology, and brain stimulation facilities. The interdisciplinary Methods of Psychology team (https://meth-psy.univie.ac.at/) currently consists of several post-doctoral and PhD students with backgrounds in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, and physics. The focus of our research is to develop new neurotechnologies and AI tools to better understand psychological phenomena and to advance experimental therapies for debilitating psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Your personal sphere of influence:

For this position, we are seeking a candidate with a strong interest in leveraging advanced AI technologies to improve mental health solutions. These include developing interpretable machine learning models for accurate data predictions, applying NLP and LLMs to improve psychiatric diagnostics, and automating personalized exposure therapy with augmented reality to make mental health treatment more accessible and effective (https://meth-psy.univie.ac.at/research/forschungsbereich-prof-scharnowski/research-areas/). Candidates should have a very good university degree in psychology, cognitive science, computer science, engineering, physics, or related fields. Strong computational skills are required, e.g., Python and R. Fluency in English is a must; good knowledge of German is desireable. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting and analyzing behavioral experiments, online experiments, statistical analyses, and programming.

Your future tasks:

As a new member of our team, you will actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You will be involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of applying computational methods, to psychological domains, with a particular focus on applications to anxiety disorders.
	You will be working on completing your dissertation (cumulative dissertation based on manuscripts).
	We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
	You will design, implement, and conduct experiments with human participants.
	You will apply computational modeling and AI tools to psychological and clinical data.
	You will teach courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You will take on administrative tasks in research, teaching, and administration.

ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. XJTLU now has over 25,000 enrolled students in both Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans to grow to about 28,000 students by 2025. ABOUT ACADEMY OF FUTURE EDUCATION (AOFE)

The Academy of Future Education of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an educational innovation ecosystem that focuses on research, exploration, support, and dissemination of philosophy and best practices for future education. ROLES OVERVIEW:

The broad mandate of the Faculty roles in EDU are to support the professional development of XJTLU staff as well as the production of publications and artefacts (websites, development materials) associated with educational development. The core mission of the roles in EDU is dual: 1) to support the implementation across XJTLU of learning and teaching; 2) to support and advance XJTLU Learning & Teaching Strategy, with a focus on innovation in learning and teaching. This is mainly achieved through the delivery of institutional academic development programmes; primarily, the PGCert programme, and other Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes. Other areas of support include providing assistance and guidance on peer review, and curriculum and assessment design, as well as collaborating with departments to develop specific learning and teaching strategies, events, or activities. A specific focus on XJTLU’s Research-led Learning and Syntegrative Education are also desirable.

As appropriate, the Educational Developer will conduct research on teaching and learning, develop pedagogical resources, and lead workshops and other events for faculty, students and staff.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

	Support the implementation, across the institution, of the University’s vision for Learning and Teaching.
	Delivery of modules on the PGCert programme.
	Support the development of an institutional CPD framework and ready relevant documentation for approval by the respective committees at XJTLU and the University of Liverpool, as well as accreditation by the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
	Provide expert and specialist advice and guidance to academic staff in developing excellence in teaching with a primary view of enhancing the student learning experience at XJTLU.
	Develop collaborative networks to identify and disseminate good practices in teaching and learning and evaluates their effectiveness.
	Recommend, lead and facilitate the effective sharing of good practices in assessments and other student evaluation.
	Act as a consultant/coach to academic staff seeking to enhance the quality of their teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:


	A minimum of 5 years' experience in post-secondary education, and 3 years’ experience in educational development. 
	Excellent knowledge of current theories and practices in education, particularly with respect to post-secondary teaching and learning (e.g. student-centred active learning, large classes, small groups, team-based learning, blended and online learning, flipped classrooms, transnational education etc.), and educational development. 
	The ability to create and deliver programming (informal and formal stand-alone or embedded activities) for teaching development.
	Collegiality and a willingness to work with others. 
	The ability to effectively lead and collaborate on cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, multi-tasking and establishing priorities and meeting deadlines with minimal direction.
	Knowledge of and experience in Quality Assurance processes including accreditation requirements of professional bodies, and understanding of approaches to quality enhancement. 
	Strong computer skills, including a high degree of facility with the use of all Microsoft applications and the use of Web 2.0 technologies for educational purposes using a VLE (Moodle preferred). 
	A Masters in Education or related field, PhD in Education, EdD or related field preferred.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Membership of and engagement with a relevant professional body such as SEDA (Staff and Educational Development Association), Education Development Centre (EDC), or the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD) is preferred, though not essential.

Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy is preferred, though not essential. Senior and Principal Fellowship are more desirable.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.  Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. The Department of Health and Environmental Sciences combines distinctive disciplinary approaches to understand and solve some of the most critical challenges faced by society today.

In our programmes, we provide our students with the theoretical and practical foundations needed for a successful career working to improve the health and well-being of populations and the environment. Our students gain a strong grounding in natural and social sciences, as well as medical humanities, in order to develop a holistic view of the complex processes contributing to the health of populations, and those behind globalized environmental issues. Our research is brought directly into the classroom, providing a learning and teaching experience that combines theory with the most current knowledge in public health and environmental science.

The Department is under new leadership and entering an exciting new phase of development focused on the “Environment, Social/Sustainability and Governance”, which is a key priority area for the School of Science, XJTLU and the Suzhou government. This is a strategic response to both the growing market demand for ESG professionals and the existing strengths of the current environmental science programme. The environmental component of ESG is increasingly becoming critical in global corporate strategies, driven by regulatory pressures and a shift towards sustainable development. While the social and governance aspects of ESG have received more attention in corporate frameworks, environmental stewardship and sustainability is increasingly becoming a priority for companies, governments, and policymakers. Located in Suzhou, China, a hub for many major national and international companies that are required by law to disclose ESG information, this innovative pathway is uniquely positioned to tap into the growing regional demand for ESG experts. By enacting recent legislative changes to its policy, the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) now mandates full ESG disclosures for its companies, creating an immediate and unfilled local need for professionals well-versed in these practices.

We are looking to recruit and hire a highly experienced, motivated, productive and accomplished scholars/researchers in this field to help support our programming/research growth and development in this area. 	Research interests in Carbon sequestration, Circular Economy, Environmental Economics, Environmental Policy, Life Cycle Analysis, Renewable Energy, and/or Sustainability.
	Teaching expertise in or Environment, Social/Sustainability and Governance and/or Environmental Management, and especially for the courses “Sustainable Energy” and “Environmental Economics”.

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. ABOUT ACADEMY OF FUTURE EDUCATION (AOFE)

The Academy of Future Education of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an educational innovation ecosystem that focuses on research, exploration, support, and dissemination of philosophy and best practices for future education. The core mission of the Academy is to impact education innovation and reform in China and beyond through a variety of projects and programmes, based on fundamental approaches in educational innovation and systemic development designed to contribute to the future of education. The Academy supports individuals and institutions at all levels, including all the K-15 schools as well as vocational education and higher education institutions.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 


	Lead on the university level faculty development initiatives in instructional design as a senior member of the EDU team
	Contribute to the XJTLU institutional level development for its innovation in education.
	Design and deliver training for academic staff in educational best practice in appropriate learning technologies and in the use of tools for e-learning, specifically in web design using existing tools, rather than programming, which exceeds the scope of the role.
	Provide advice and guidance to academic staff in their work to build, develop, adapt and source online course content, in accordance with the instructional objectives of the relevant programme, which is often discipline-specific.
	Keep abreast of developments in best educational practice to identify, evaluate and implement new approaches to teaching and learning, especially the appropriate roles and value for learning of both group and independent work both synchronously and asynchronously.
	Manage specific projects relating to distance, hybrid and e-learning, ensuring that these meet the strategic objectives of the School and University.
	Create standards and ensure compliance with templates such as those for presentation materials, course websites and style sheets.
	Develop and implement methods for evaluating the impact of e-learning tools and modules/programmes in the enhancement of learning and teaching;
	Evaluate new and existing learning technologies and tools for use within EDU and University;
	Actively seek to share and disseminate best educational practice in the design of online materials, deployment of e-learning tools and the incorporation of learning technology and pedagogy across the University.


QUALIFICATIONS:


	Five years progressively responsible experience in a complex organization working with academics or customers to deliver value;
	Experience of leading successful E-learning projects;
	Experience with design and development of web 2.0 applications, such as H5P or Articulate, videos and animations, including training in best practices;
	Education, qualifications and training;
	Masters’ degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education or similar
