About MediaFutures/ the position About MediaFutures MediaFutures is a Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) funded by the Research Council of Norway and hosted by the University of Bergen. The centre is located at Media City Bergen and is closely connected to the Department of Information Science and Media Studies, the DARS research group, and adjacent computational social science and AI research environments at UiB. MediaFutures conducts interdisciplinary research on responsible artificial intelligence and media technologies, including media trust, recommender systems, AI-driven content production and analysis, content interaction and accessibility, Norwegian language technology, and broader questions in computational social science and behavioural data science. The centre produces scientific publications, prototypes, tools, and innovation outputs in close cooperation with industry partners. In the coming years, MediaFutures is also expected to play an important role in shaping possible post-SFI research structures and future research trajectories at UiB, including activities linked to DARS and to the broader scientific agenda associated with the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab. Read more about the centre at: https://mediafutures.no/ Strategic Context As MediaFutures enters the final phase of the SFI period, the centre is strengthening its long-term portfolio-building and external funding capacity in order to support possible post-SFI organisational models and future research trajectories at UiB. This position is designed as a strategic research-development role and will work closely with the Centre Director to help build future national and international funding pipelines, while also contributing active research within DARS and within the broader scientific agenda associated with the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab. The position will collaborate closely with the Centre Director on a daily basis and report formally to the Centre Director at MediaFutures. About the Position The position will be affiliated with the DARS research group. The successful candidate is also expected to conduct research relevant to the broader scientific agenda associated with the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab at UiB and to demonstrate an understanding of the research themes, methods, and long-term academic ambitions connected to this environment. This position focuses on strengthening MediaFutures', DARS', and related research environments' future research portfolio and funding capacity. The successful candidate will combine active research with the identification, development, and shaping of new national and international grant opportunities, especially within RCN, EU, and other strategically relevant funding schemes. Responsibilities Conduct research in behavioural data science aligned with MediaFutures' strategic priorities and with the broader scientific agenda associated with DARS and the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab. Contribute actively to the development of new national and international grant proposals. Identify funding opportunities and support concept development for large-scale interdisciplinary research initiatives. Draft and further develop scientific sections of proposals and coordinate academic and partner input where relevant. Support long-term portfolio development, visibility, and strategic positioning of MediaFutures, DARS, the broader scientific environment associated with the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab, and adjacent research environments. Contribute to publications and other scientific outputs linked to ongoing and emerging research themes. Help structure proposal processes, timelines, internal review rounds, and knowledge transfer across applications. Qualifications and personal qualities: The applicant must: Hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within Data Science, Computer Science, Information Science, Computational Social Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field. Have submitted the PhD thesis at the time of application and have been awarded the degree before the starting date of the position Demonstrate strong competence in statistical analysis, computational methods, and data-driven research. Have a clear research profile relevant to the centre's scientific priorities and the broader research themes pursued in DARS and in the scientific environment associated with the Norwegian Computational Behaviour & AI Lab. Demonstrate excellent writing skills and the ability to formulate clear and convincing scientific arguments. Demonstrate ability to combine independent research with strategic and collaborative development work in a shared research environment. Be proficient in written and spoken English, as English is the working language of the centre. Research Fellow in Nanoelectronic Device Fabrication

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher with experience and expertise in nanoelectronic device fabrication, to be based in the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton as part of the group of Dr Ruomeng Huang (R.Huang@soton.ac.uk). This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the EXPRESS (Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors) Programme Grant recently announced by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). EXPRESS is a large (£10M) flagship, interdisciplinary research programme over 5-years. It is led jointly by the Universities of Southampton and Warwick, alongside several international and industrial partners, and brings together internationally leading teams from across chemistry, physics and electronic engineering. It aims to deliver a step-change in the understanding and control of electrochemical growth of high-quality mono/few-layer functional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), combining precursor design and synthesis, electrochemistry, solution and surface computation, advanced characterisation and device integration. In addition to the essential disciplinary research skills, candidates should demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for collaborative working, the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, and well-developed organisational skills. In this role, your primary focus will be the fabrication and optimisation of TMDC-based nanoelectronic devices, including transistors and memristive devices, using electrodeposited TMDC materials developed within the EXPRESS programme. You will design and implement fabrication process flows within a cleanroom environment, including thin film deposition, lithography, mask design and etching, and carry out device and materials characterisation using techniques such as SEM/EDX, XRD, Raman, XPS and electrical (I–V) measurements. The role will involve integration of novel materials into device architectures and development of reliable fabrication protocols. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues across the EXPRESS consortium, including materials synthesis, electrochemistry and theory teams. You will be required to be flexible and interact effectively with colleagues across the wider EXPRESS consortium to fulfil the scientific goals of the Programme. The position is offered for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 further years.
