The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has a vacancy for a Professor/Associate Professor in Construction Engineering.

The Department is a leading force within education and research in the construction, civil engineering, and transport sectors.

With a focus on quality, sustainability and digitalisation, we contribute to value creation in both the public and private sectors. Through major research projects and innovative solutions, we support the green transition in the built environment.

The position is part of the Building Process research group and covers rock blasting technique, rock excavation in surface and underground operations, tunnelling, earth moving and similar.

The position reports to the Head of Department.

Duties of the position


	Teaching and research within the field of Construction Engineering
	Initiate research in planning, design and construction of tunnels, underground spaces and surface rock excavations
	Take part in interdisciplinary education and research collaboration across the different sections of the department, as well as other departments and faculties at NTNU
	Engage in applications for external funding from e.g. the Research Council of Norway, European Research Council, as well as the construction industry and the public owners
	Plan and lead research projects
	Participate in the further development of the Department’s Building Process research group
	Teach in relevant study programs, including supervision of PhD and MSc fellows, as well as in continuing education courses
	Topics of the research area includes:
	
		Excavation methods, equipment, capacity and cost models, quality, HES, resource efficiency and environmental impact
		Digitalization and BIM in construction engineering
		Adapting construction engineering to the green shift
		Design and optimization of construction works regarding technical, economic and environmental performance
	
	
	Use of experimental investigations in the laboratory and in the field has high priority
	
	Cooperation with other research groups in construction engineering and the Norwegian construction industry, in order to develop new methods and applicationI

	If all other matters are equal in the evaluation of candidates, weight will be placed on documented experience from and/or research cooperation with the construction industry.
	


Required qualifications 

Professor: 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of Professor in the field of construction engineering, as outlined in § 1-2 of the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 


	Your scientific experience must be primarily in the field of Construction Engineering (or a comparable relevant field) 
	Your PhD, or comparable academic work, must be within Construction Engineering or related fields
	You must have strong and relevant research experience in addition to your PhD
	You must have experience from research projects in cooperation with the construction sector
	Good presentation skills in English, both written and spoken
	In addition to the requirements for basic educational competence, you must also document: 
	
		The development of the quality of your own teaching and supervision of students over time 
		Broad experience as a supervisor, preferably at a master’s/PhD level 
		Participation in improving the quality of education in a professional environment 
	
	


Associate professor: 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of Associate Professor in the field of  Construction Engineering, as outlined in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 


	Your PhD, or comparable academic work, must be within the field of Construction Engineering (or a comparable relevant field) 
	You must have experience from research projects in cooperation with the construction sector
	Good presentation skills in English, both written and spoken


Applicable to all:  

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 

New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Salary and conditions

As a Professor (code 1013) you are normally paid from gross 800 000 NOK – 1 200 000 NOK per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. As an Associate Professor (code 1011) you are normally paid from gross 650 000 NOK – 850 000 NOK per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority.  As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment, are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.   

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates. Our assessment of the pedagogical skills will be based on documented pedagogical material, forms of presentation in your academic works, teaching experience, PhD, and Masters supervision, and any other relevant pedagogical background. Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration, and an open scientific practice will be recognized.

We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.

Postdoc Position in Cardiovascular Research on the Genetic Background of Hypercholesterolemia

Our lab is specifically interested in the genetics of familial hypercholesterolemia and other dyslipidemias. LDL-cholesterol levels as a key risk factor of atherosclerosis development have a strong genetic background. It has been shown that individuals with monogenic hypercholesterolemia are at higher risk of premature cardiovascular disease than individuals with polygenic hypercholesterolemia, and those are at higher risk than individuals with lifestyle-related high cholesterol levels. Thus, the determination of the individual genetic risk of hypercholesterolemia might help establish the individual risk of cardiovascular disease development and might facilitate a personalized approach to therapy. A specific effort is being made to identify a genetic cause for the severe FH phenotype in patients who tested negative after standard genetic analysis. We are particularly focusing on polygenic factors and polygenic risk scores, the role of which has not been sufficiently defined and elucidated yet. We are also studying the importance of molecular genetic diagnostics in familial hypercholesterolemia neonatal/paediatric screening.

The postdoctoral position will be part of the more significant NPO project LX22NPO5104 named "National Institute for Metabolic and Cardiovascular Research", funded by the Ministry of education, youth and sports (RRF). We are currently looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and independent postdoc with a background in molecular genetics, molecular biology, medical biology, biochemistry, genetic epidemiology, metabolic or cardiovascular medicine, or a related field to help us uncover the molecular principles of polygenic versus monogenic determination of hypercholesterolemia and/or atherosclerosis, as well as the role of molecular diagnostics in personalized medicine.

The successful candidate should:


	Be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or similar;
	Have Excellent communication and teamwork skills;
	Have a publishing record – in the last five years, at least three publication outputs ("articles") above the field median (at least two of them in Q1) registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science;
	Have practical experience and theoretical knowledge of basic molecular biology methods, and/or bioinformatics/statistics
	Fluency in spoken and written English is required at level C1.

The School of Politics and Economics includes the departments of Political Economy, European & International Studies, and King’s Russia Institute. About the role

The School is looking to appoint a Senior Research Operations Officer (SROO) who will lead on postgraduate research programme administration and will provide high-quality and comprehensive administrative, budgetary, and research grant support to the School, working alongside the School Research Manager and academics to support the grant lifecycle from bid development to the day-to-day administration of awards.

 

Postgraduate research programme administration will include day-to-day administrative support for our postgraduate research programmes and collaborating closely with academic and student support teams to guarantee a seamless student experience from admission to graduation. They will support students with registration, progression and day to day enquiries, keeping track of personal research funds, while also maintaining student records and supporting the relevant school and departmental committees.

 

The research and grant administration aspect of the role will include both post-award administration and pre-award support. Post award administration will include managing grant finances, booking travel, accommodation and meeting rooms, processing expense claims, and supporting the recruitment of research assistants to research projects. Pre-award administration will include helping staff members to prepare costs for research grant applications and supporting staff members with navigating the application process.  

 

The SROO will be required to work closely with all relevant stakeholders and maintain up to date knowledge of programme and College regulations, providing accurate guidance to colleagues and students as required, and ensuring all assurance processes are followed. The role would be suited to someone who can manage multiple competing priorities, has good attention to detail, and can build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including colleagues in Finance, Human Resources, Student Registry Services, and the Research Management & Innovation Directorate (RMID).

 

You will also be expected to develop your expertise in quality assurance and regulations, contribute to process improvements, and participate in professional networks dedicated to promoting best practices.
