The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Automotive Engineering. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong research experience. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach modules in the Bachelor's program in Smart Mobility Engineering (SME). The expected workload for the inclass lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). The successful lecturer should deploy the research-informed teaching approach while offering lectures of the following modules, but not limited to: Automotive Engineering: Fundamentals of Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, Core Technologies for Future Vehicles, Automotive Regulations and Standard, Product development process in automotive industry. Electric Vehicle Engineering: Introduction to Electric Vehicles, The Role of Electric Vehicles in Sustainable Development, Electric Vehicle Battery Systems, Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles, An Overall Design of Electric Powertrain System. Mechanical Engineering: Introduction to mechanisms and machines, Kinematics of mechanisms, Dynamics of mechanisms, Balancing, Dynamics of cylinder engines, Vehicle driveline system, Introduction to electric powertrain and hybrid powertrain system. Mechanics (Optional): General fundamentals of Mechanics, Vector algebra, Forces and moments, Objects in equilibrium, Support reactions, Center of gravity, Geometrical stability of plane structures, Stress resultants, Dynamics of systems of point masses, Dynamics of rigid bodies. The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may require conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to conduct research activities (including research projects, organizing scientific seminars/workshops/conferences, and supervising doctoral candidates) to contribute to building the scientific profile of VGU. At first, the lecturer must be capable of successfully applying research grants and funds to support research activities. Secondly, research activities led by the lecturer shall be inter- and trans-disciplinary with a focus on sustainable automotive systems, covering vehicle technology (electrification, lightweight materials, energy-efficient drivetrains), use phase (efficient driving, shared mobility, connected vehicle tech for traffic optimization), and urban/system context (integration with sustainable transport planning, congestion and traffic safety management). Lastly, the lecturer will play as an active senior researcher at the Vietnamese-German Transport Research Center (VGTRC) and willing to join research clusters when required. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the SME program by participating in administrative, marketing and student recruitment, and other activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university(ies). The successful candidate will be also responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the laboratory equipment and devices used for research and educational activities, as assigned by the Academic Coordinator and/or VGTRC director. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic selfadministration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. Qualification Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Associate/Full Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include: An outstanding academic record with a focus on automotive engineering and sustainable automotive systems (electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles) or closely related fields Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation combined with a passion for teaching and research Relevant industry/consultancy experience Proven excellent English proficiency: Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level C1 at the time of application submission. Alternatively, candidates who do not hold a valid English proficiency certificate at the submission time need to be internally assessed at VGU to meet the criterion stated above. Description The Research Center on Stability, Instability and Turbulence (SITE) a center of the Research Institute, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the fluid mechanics laboratory for experimental fluid dynamics. SITE is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions. SITE is highly interdisciplinary and aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation.
