Jikei University School of Medicine (Gakko Hojin Jikei Daigaku Tokyo Jikeikai Ika Daigaku) is a private university located in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. It was founded in 1881 by Kanehiro Takaki, a physician who came up with the dietary theory for treating beriberi in the Imperial Japanese Navy. His studies at London’s Saint Thomas’s Hospital Medical School inspired him to create a similar institution in Japan. It has been running in its present form since 1951. Jikei's faculty of medicine is split into the school of medicine and the school of nursing. It offers courses in anaesthetics, cardiac surgery, dermatology, emergency medicine, intensive care unit, neurology, endocrinology, oncology, gynaecology and obstetrics, orthopaedic surgery, radiology, rehabilitation medicine, surgery, urology and other disciplines. Jikei has four university hospitals - a main hospital, Katsushika Medical Center, as well as the Daisan Hospital in Chofu Komae, the Kashiwa Hospital in Chiba and the Jikei University School of Medicine Triton Clinic in Harumi. With 2,700 beds and 7,500 outpatients per day, Jikei University Hospitals constitute one of the largest educational hospital systems in the country. There is also a graduate school for medical research and three training schools for nurses. The university also has an exchange programme with King’s College London. Having access to Tokyo as a student is often a transformative experience. The Library are now looking for a Library Engagement Team Leader to join our Library Engagement team, providing high-quality frontline support for students and staff across our library services. You will be an enthusiastic, friendly and adaptable person and play a key role in managing the day-to-day work of the team, ensuring that excellent customer service standards are consistently delivered. You will lead and support colleagues delivering face-to-face and digital enquiry services, helping to maintain an efficient, responsive and user-focused service. You should be educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience. Candidates without formal qualifications but with significant, relevant experience will also be considered. You will have experience working in a customer-focused, service delivery environment, ideally within a library, IT or educational setting, along with experience of delivering enquiry services in a digital environment. You should have excellent communication, customer care and team working skills, alongside the ability to manage, motivate and develop staff. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and digital systems is essential, as is the ability to gather and analyse information to support service improvements. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, able to problem-solve effectively and maintain high service standards under pressure. Experience of supervising staff, contributing to service development or projects, and an interest in innovation and continuous improvement will be advantageous. A flexible approach and willingness to acquire new skills are essential to support service delivery in a changing environment. This role supports applied food processing research projects with strong industry relevance, focusing on product development, process optimization and food characterization. Key Responsibilities Lead bench formulation of mushroom‑based and plant‑based food products, especially focusing on muscle‑like architectures to achieve required texture, flavour, and nutrition performance during cooking, reheating, and storage. Apply advanced texturisation techniques, including cold extrusion, lamination, and natural tenderisation strategies (e.g. enzyme treatment, solid-state fermentation), to create fibrous, meat‑like structures that replicate bite, chewiness, and elasticity. Translate scalable solutions from upstream processing (e.g. protein gels, fermented ingredients) into robust food formulations by collaboration with culinary experts, and lead pilot‑scale trials at facilities such as SIT FoodPlant to assess manufacturability, reproducibility, and scalability for clinical and consumer studies. Conduct textural, rheological, and sensory characterisation to evaluate product performance and guide formulation refinement. Consolidate formulation, processing, and performance data to support techno‑economic analysis (TEA), life‑cycle assessment (LCA), and cost–benefit analysis (CBA). Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress updates, and final deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders. Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support progress meetings, technology transfer activities, conferences, and approved communication channels. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars involved in the projects.
