Requirements Applicants for the position should have: (i) A PhD degree in relevant areas in film and media studies; (ii) Good track record of refereed publications, awards and competitive grants; (iii) Up-to-date knowledge in the literature of media and creative industries with demonstrated strengths along institutional, historical or technological lines; (iv) Teaching experience in some the following subjects: theory, history, and methods of media and creative industries; comparative cultural policy in East Asia; Hong Kong creative and media industries; new technology and media industries; (v) Familiarity with regional mediascapes and current East Asian creative and film industries. Description The Bias, Ethics, and Privacy Cluster within the Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate under the supervision of Professor Hanan Salam to work on the development of frameworks, tools, and theoretical foundations for bias detection and mitigation in AI & data science, with a particular focus on applications relevant to the Arab world. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection of machine learning, algorithmic fairness, human-computer interaction, and responsible AI. The project aims to investigate how bias emerges in data pipelines and AI systems, understand the design and development decisions that propagate social biases, and develop theoretical and algorithmic approaches to mitigate them. Key responsibilities include developing bias detection tools, building fairness-aware algorithms, and contributing to practical guidelines and theoretical frameworks that address systemic bias in data-driven systems. This position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant research environment with faculty and collaborators across computer science, data science, design, and ethics, and to contribute to high-impact research that shapes the development of equitable and inclusive AI technologies in the Arab region. Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, HCI, or a closely related field, and a strong track record of research in areas such as algorithmic fairness, bias in machine learning, ethics in AI, or sociotechnical systems. Description We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in Economics focusing on firm dynamics, structural transformation, economic growth, spatial economics. The appointment is for 3 years and will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and UAE visa acquisition by the prospective post-doctoral candidate. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Zheng Wang, Professor Samreen Malik, Professor Raul Santaeulalia-Llopis and Professor Wisam Alshaibi. The collaborative research will be on projects related to economic growth, structural transformation, and firm-level supply chains/business network formation in low-income countries (possibly, in conflict affected areas, CAF). We seek a candidate with expertise in both empirical and theoretical economics and strong coding skills. The role will involve designing surveys, working with existing datasets, and applying models of firm dynamics in settings of structural transformation and economic growth. We are interested in identifying spillovers of policy in this context, hence the emphasis in firm-level supply chains/business network formation and/or spatial economics. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation.
