An exciting opportunity for someone with previous clinical trials experience to join the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), within the University of Southampton, in an important role as Senior Trials Manager (STM) within the Early Diagnosis and Translational Group.  SCTU is a leading UK academic CTU located within the state-of-the-art Centre for Cancer Immunology building at Southampton General Hospital. Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) | University of Southampton SCTU is a UKCRC registered CTU and is core-funded by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) together with funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) via the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Research Support Service (RSS).  SCTU has expertise in the design, conduct and publication of clinical trials and other well-designed studies from first-in-human phase I to practice changing phase III trials to large early diagnosis observational studies with rich translational data. Managing a growing portfolio (75% cancer, 25% non-cancer) that covers the complete spectrum of clinical practice, from primary care through to tertiary referral medicine, including pan-cancer experimental therapeutics, surgery, radiotherapy and early diagnosis. Undertaking multi-centre early and late phase clinical trials, we work nationally and internationally to create the evidence for patient benefit that will directly influence routine clinical practice in the NHS and overseas.  As part of the CRUK and NIHR infrastructure we have close working relationships with our partners, including the Southampton Experimental Cancer Research Centre, NIHR BRC & RSS, University Hospital Southampton, the Centre for Cancer Immunology discovery community and CRUK Centres and Institutes across the UK, with an increasing number of international collaborations.  The Senior Trials Manager will lead the relevant portfolio team to ensure effective delivery of the overall strategy and delivery priorities for SCTU. This will include resource management, oversight of financial management, new trial development, grant applications, and the ability to anticipate and consider potential issues or opportunities which could affect delivery and growth of the relevant portfolio. The appointed person must have proven experience of running clinical trials, with a focus on multistakeholder studies collecting patient samples for analysis, and including new trial development. A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Plumbing and Heating Technician to join the newly-restructured Maintenance Services team at the University of Surrey. Working as part of a team responsible for the operational maintenance of University premises, you will be undertaking planned and reactive work on Mechanical systems to support the University’s infrastructure and environmental control systems across all our premises, ensuring that they are maintained in a safe, efficient, and functional order. You'll be required to support our current day pattern of 08.00 – 16.12 Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities include: Maintain all Mechanical systems, including statutory inspection and testing where required, to meet current legislative requirements. Ensure failing plant or assets are reported to the Helpdesk and plant areas are maintained in good condition. Deliver an effective and timely response to maintenance demands across the University in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensure compliance with all University Health and Safety and Environmental systems and procedures, and take an active part in the development of these policies Ensure the use of equipment and materials in delivery of maintenance services are appropriate and meet current legislative standards. Keep up to date with Mechanical related legislation and developments, attending courses and passing all necessary exams to maintain professional accreditation. Carry out multi-skilled tasks, where relevant, such as (but not restricted to) Electrical isolation and fault finding, minor carpentry, redecoration repairs linked to maintenance work. Complete all administrative work associated with departmental management systems, including the completion of work records, timesheets, stores issues, estimates and health & safety records. Utilise Building Logbook to record all maintenance visits and any relevant defective information and repairs. All defects to be reported immediately to the help desk for further action. You’ll need good planning, organising and prioritising skills, and will be expected to tackle more complex tasks, take on additional responsibilities and communicate effectively at a senior level. Description The Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit Research Scientist to work on advanced sustainable functionalized membranes for desalination and water treatment, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functionalized membrane materials to tailor sustainable antifouling hybrid ultrafiltration membranes and antibacterial nanofiltration or reverse osmosis membranes for desalination and water purification. The candidate will explore advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, AFM, Raman, TEM, DSC, XRD, FTIR, TGA, BET, etc.) to correlate fabrication-structure-property-performance of novel nanomaterials with sustainable membranes for desalination and water purification via separation processes. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage the project and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, establish deep technical knowledge, and develop transferable skills. He/she will actively be involved in developing novel concepts and writing research proposals. He/she will work on solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing progress reports, authoring peer-reviewed publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at national and international conferences. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate his expertise in assessing antibacterial and antibiofouling properties of nanomaterials, membrane fabrications, sewage water treatment, life cycle assessment, and separation processes. He/she will be detail-oriented and well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must have a PhD in materials science and engineering, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field, along with at least 6 years of relevant post-PhD research experience along with extensive research and publication in well-known journals and conference papers or similar research accomplishments. Analytical characterization skills and excellent experimental expertise relevant to assessing the antibacterial and antibiofouling properties of diversified sustainable membranes are required. Candidates with a history of peer-reviewed publications in a related research area and prior expertise in materials science, environmental chemistry, and water treatment will be preferred. This position will begin in September 2026 as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance.
