Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad was originally set up in 1965 as an engineering college. In 1972, it became Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, named after India’s first prime minister. 

The university retains its focus on engineering: undergraduate courses range from aeronautical and automobile degrees to AI, biotechnology and metallurgical and materials engineering. There are also “value-added courses” on offer, including humanities and social sciences, environment and water resources. The majority of value-added courses are also related to engineering.

The 89-acre campus includes its own fire station, as well as a guest house with 53 rooms and a university canteen. University hostels provide separate accommodation for male and female students. All offer a TV room, dining hall, gymnasium, computer room and reading room. An international students’ hostel houses 60 students in single bedrooms.

It provides facilities for sports including cricket, football, badminton, table-tennis and chess. Students are also able to play traditional Indian games kho-kho, kabbadi and carom. 

Several student clubs are technology-related, such as coding club, Robonauts club and Google developer club. Others – such as the Elite Feet dance club and Shutter Up photography club – cater to students’ non-academic interests.
