Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology was founded as Bondo University College in Bondo, Kenya. It was established in 2009.

Initially an affiliate of Maseno University, it received its charter and current name in 2013. 

Students can study across schools of agriculture and food science, biology, physics, mathematical and actuarial science, business and ecomomics, education, humanities and social science, spatial planning and natural resource development, informatics and information systems, health sciences, and engineering and technology.

Agriculture and food science courses are located at Siaya, 10 miles out of Bondo, where facilities include a 50 hectare commercial farm,

The Blue Economy Centre for maritime studies, whose facilities include a fish hatchery specialising in tilapia, is located in Miyendhe, 15 miles from Bondo.

The School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, within the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science, seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Conservation. This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic team and play an important role in ensuring our students enjoy a fantastic student experience.  You will be expected to make broad contributions to the academic work of the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, particularly in the area of conservation. Experience in zoo conservation would be beneficial as would the ability to assist on field trips. You will hold a PhD in the field of Conservation Biology, and have experience of teaching undergraduate students, ideally across all levels. This is a fixed term post for 4 months to cover maternity leave. An opportunity has arisen to join the team at the Glen Eyre Halls of Residence. This is a fixed-term contract for four months. The post is a busy customer-facing role that is based across two areas- the main reception and the post room. You will be regularly interacting with students, contractors and visitors. You will need to to be used to using IT systems, answering phone calls, and quickly become familiar with the University processes and procedures. There are four other members of the team and you will need to be able to work Monday to Friday between 8am-4pm and 12pm-8pm depending on the rota. There is never a dull moment and each day can throw up new challenges, but we all work together and support each other to deliver the best service we can. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. Job Details This Research Engineer will contribute to an international joint project related to policy-making in urban planning and design, focusing on developing a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework and tool. The work will involve integrating results from GeoTOPSIS and/or VectorMCDA in QGIS, enhancing spatial decision support for blue–green infrastructure and ecosystem service evaluation. The Research Engineer will lead the software development and interface programming, working closely with the GIS Research Fellow and interdisciplinary project team members to create a user-friendly, scalable decision-support tool for planners and policymakers. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely completion of all project deliverables. Implement and enhance GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA algorithms within QGIS using Python or equivalent programming frameworks. Develop a user-friendly interface (QGIS plugin or web-based application) for decision-making and data visualization. Collaborate with the GIS Research Fellow to integrate ecosystem service layers and model outputs. Conduct tool testing, validation, and iterative refinement based on stakeholder feedback. Manage documentation, data pipelines, and version control. Support system deployment on a secure project server and ensure cross-platform interoperability. Assist in project management and support the team in facilitating and organizing workshops, stakeholder sessions, and policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geomatics, Environmental Informatics, or related fields. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or JavaScript for spatial analysis, interface development, or web applications. Experience in plugin or dashboard development (e.g., PyQGIS, Dash, Streamlit, or web-GIS frameworks). Familiarity with GIS concepts and geospatial data structures; experience with QGIS or ArcGIS will be an advantage. Ability to translate analytical models into intuitive, interactive user interfaces. Good teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to learn new tools and frameworks independently. Additional Note: While prior experience with GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA is not mandatory, it will be considered a strong advantage. On-the-job training will be provided to equip the candidate with necessary methods and integration workflows with ecosystem service models and spatial datasets. Key Competencies Strong programming skills (Python/R/JavaScript) for tool and interface development. Ability to implement or learn GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA methods in GIS environments. Good teamwork and communication skills for collaboration with the project team. Strong problem-solving ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn new tools. Good organizational and documentation skills; familiarity with GIS is a plus.

This project moves beyond standard mechanical integration, focusing heavily on the software architecture required for seamless, automated operation. The core objective is to architect and develop the robust middleware that facilitates real-time communication between the legged robot's controller and the sophisticated surveying payload. By taking on this role, the successful candidate will master the art of payload integration and middleware development—a highly sought-after skillset that empowers engineers to upgrade, integrate, or automate virtually any tool or sensor payload in their future careers. Key Responsibilities Middleware Development: Architect, build, and maintain the communication middleware bridging the legged robot's control system and the surveyor payload. Systems Integration: Ensure seamless hardware and software integration between the mobile base and the high-precision surveying equipment. Mapping & Navigation: Implement and optimize mapping algorithms and remote control functionalities tailored for a legged platform navigating complex terrains.
