İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University was founded as a public university in 2010, taking its name from the distinguished Ottoman polymath Kâtip Çelebi. The public university is located in Izmir, an industrious port city in western Anatolia on the Aegean Sea that is Turkey’s third most populous metropolis. İzmir is home to archaeological sites and treasures from its ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine heritage.
The university offers more than 50 undergraduate programmes, over 100 master’s courses and some 50 PhD programmes.
The faculties at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University include: dentistry, health sciences, medicine, economics and administrative sciences, aquaculture, tourism, engineering and architecture, shipbuilding and marine sciences, forestry, pharmacy, social and human sciences, art and design, law, and theology. There are 20 university research centres. In addition to the main university campus is a nearby health campus.
Among the courses on offer are: dentistry, general surgery, paediatrics, cardiology, microbiology, materials engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, biomedical engineering, and architecture.
Izmir Kâtip Çelebi University has built an internationally oriented faculty body and has crafted an outward-looking curriculum. Courses are taught in Turkish, English and Arabic, and the campus has an international air about it, with students from almost 100 countries.
Izmir Kâtip Çelebi University participates in student exchange programmes: the European Union’s Erasmus+ scheme, Farabi (covering domestic student exchanges) and Mevlana (enabling study or research at universities worldwide).

Description The Academic Enrichment Program at NYU Abu Dhabi is an academic program designed to help prepare Emirati students to succeed as fully matriculated students in a liberal arts and research university. The program focuses on developing linguistic and argumentation skills through three thematically integrated courses that scaffold learning and provide solid preparation for student engagement in the liberal arts curriculum. We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher in Transport Studies The doctoral researcher will be embedded in the Spatial Planning and Transportation (SPT) research group and contribute to the CO-SPACES research project funded by the Research Council of Finland. The aim of CO-SPACES is to assess the benefits and burdens created by current and possible future urban street space distribution in Finnish cities, with a focus on both the aggregate societal impacts and equity implications affecting different groups of people, as well as on how to integrate this assessment into existing local governance processes. The PhD project should focus on the last part, especially around the questions of governance – by both understanding the diverse actors’ views and assumptions and working with them to reimagine governance processes. Your experience and ambitions We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong analytical skills and a clear interest in urban transport systems and their governance. The successful applicant should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary research environment and be willing to engage with both mixed-methodological and applied research questions.
