Within the Science, Engineering and Technology Group of KU Leuven, the Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a professorship in Mechanical Engineering. We are seeking internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research track record and strong teaching competence in numerical modelling, plasma physics, nuclear fusion, and nuclear technology. We further expect teaching competences in underlying scientific disciplines such as fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics. Junior profiles will be appointed as tenure track assistant professor, with an evaluation after 5 years. Senior candidates may be appointed at the level of associate professor, professor, or full professor, depending on their qualifications and academic experience.

As a member of the senior academic staff of the Science, Engineering & Technology Group of KU Leuven's Arenberg Campus, you will be affiliated with both the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering Science.

Research

The candidate aims to develop and apply new insights into nuclear fusion technology with a focus on advancing 2D and 3D simulation methodologies for plasma transport, heat transfer and particle exhaust in the reactor, potentially including interactions with the broader system, and other relevant mechanisms for future fusion power plants. Combining these advanced simulation techniques with design optimisation, control, data-assimilation, uncertainty quantification, and multi-fidelity approaches is encouraged. The candidate is expected to collaborate with international fusion initiatives, considering various concepts such as tokamaks, stellarators, and inertial confinement. In addition, the candidate takes a leading role in further developing the SOLPS-ITER community code (formerly B2/EIRENE), for which KU Leuven is a core developer.

The candidate will be based in Leuven at campus Arenberg in the current fusion team that has strong existing ties and collaborations with major international fusion initiatives. The candidate is expected to pursue excellence, build national and international collaborations and publish at the highest scientific level in your field. By securing competitive funding for fundamental and/or applied research, the candidate should be able to establish a research group in close collaboration with stakeholders in the wider region and supervise PhD candidates at an international level.

Teaching

The candidate is expected to take on a teaching role in programmes such as BSc in Engineering Science, MSc in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Engineering: Energy, or the Belgian Nuclear higher Education Network. The candidate should be able to teach courses in disciplines such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics, in addition to more advanced topics. The candidate will build a research team (PhD researchers, postdoctoral fellows) that can support teaching within these disciplines. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge research that enables the definition and supervision of related BSc/MSc student projects and research topics in energy or nuclear engineering.

You will develop your teaching in line with KU Leuven’s vision on activating and researched-based education, making full use of the professional development opportunities offered by the faculty and the university.

Initially, your teaching duties will focus on a limited number of courses within the aforementioned Master's programmes. Over the course of your career, the scope of your educational activities may gradually expand, while always maintaining a balanced distribution of time between research and teaching.

Service

You are prepared to undertake scientific, societal and internal service activities. You actively seek regional, national, and international opportunities for collaboration with organisations, industry partners and other stakeholders beyond the university. You represent the Science, Engineering & Technology Group of KU Leuven, as well as your department, faculty and research group in external activities and serve as a primary point of contact between the university and its regional partners. You also engage actively in outreach initiatives, including science communication, lifelong learning, and societal debates.

Requirements


	You hold a PhD in Engineering or Science with a focus on numerical simulation of fluid and plasma flows, or nuclear fusion devices. You have a strong research profile, demonstrated by publications in leading international journals. International experience is a significant asset. You present a research plan that articulates a strong vision for future nuclear fusion research within the broader scope of this position. You also have a clear vision of how your activities will enhance KU Leuven's regional, national and international recognition, including concrete plans for collaboration with relevant partners both within and beyond the university.
	You have demonstrable qualifications in academic education, and a well-defined personal vision on academic teaching and educational organisation. Teaching experience is considered an asset.
	You possess strong organisational skills, a collaborative mindset and leadership capacities suited to a university environment.
	A good command of English is required, and KU Leuven provides training in academic English.
	The official administrative language at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or not sufficient) at the start of your appointment, KU Leuven will offer language training to enable you to participate effectively in meetings. Before teaching courses in Dutch, you will have the opportunity to acquire the necessary level of proficiency.

In principle, junior researchers are appointed as tenure-track assistant professors for a period of 5 years; after this period and following a positive evaluation, they are permanently appointed (or tenured) as associate professors.
	The position starts on September 1, 2027.

The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex is one of ten ARCs across England awarded a total of £157 million funding over five years from April 2026 to deliver applied health and care research that improves patient outcomes, enhances service delivery, and supports sustainable health and social care systems.

This fellowship offers individuals interested in Knowledge Mobilisation the opportunity to work within NIHR ARC Wessex and support our research and its engagement with communities and neighbourhoods, while developing their academic careers. Knowledge Mobilisation focuses on getting the right information to the right people, in the right format, at the right time to support the use of research.

Knowledge Mobilisation works across themes to produce accessible, practical, and tailored outputs for local and national needs. Activities include engaging with non-academic partners, co-production, evidence synthesis, dissemination, implementation, and influencing policy and decision-making. The postholder will specifically champion resources that are accessible, relevant, widely used, grounded in lived experience, accessible to all, and deliver meaningful improvement across the region.

The opportunity is aimed at individuals with the potential to become leaders in Knowledge Mobilisation who are health and/or care professionals, with a publication track record or equivalent, well-developed communication, relationship building skills, and willingness to build skills in Knowledge Mobilisation, implementation, or research engagement.

Applicants will be ambitious individuals with confidence and experience engaging with collaborators and stakeholders at all levels across different geographies and sectors of the health and care system; a willingness to work with ARC Wessex research partners across local health and care systems. You will be self-motivated, have excellent communication and writing skills, ability to meet project milestones, produce work of high quality.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge mobilisation expertise, through targeted training opportunities and their own practice, and will support capacity building in Knowledge Mobilisation among researchers and organisations working with ARC Wessex.

About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint two Radio Frequency (RF) Engineers to join the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)at the University of Sydney. In this role, you will work closely with industry partners to design and develop WiFi RF circuits, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in wireless communications.



The Telecommunication research area within the School of ECE has an established international reputation in wireless communications and signal processing, comprising five IEEE Fellows, several research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students. The University of Sydney is ranked 13th globally in Telecommunications in the recent Shanghai subject rankings, providing a highly collaborative and innovative research environment.



Your key responsibilities will be to:


	design and develop RF and analogue integrated circuit blocks such as power amplifiers, LNAs, and front-end modules
	perform schematic design, simulation, and optimisation at transistor level using industry-standard EDA tools
	conduct post-layout verification and support tape-out activities
	participate in measurement and characterisation of fabricated ICs, including on-wafer testing
	contribute to practical IC design methodologies and workflow development
	collaborate with internal research teams and external industry partners to deliver project outcomes
	manage competing deadlines and contribute to multiple concurrent projector


About you


	postgraduate qualification in electrical engineering, microelectronics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
	proven experience in RF or analogue IC design
	strong understanding of transistor-level circuit design and RF fundamentals
	experience with circuit simulation tools such as Cadence, ADS, or similar
	familiarity with CMOS or BiCMOS technologies
	ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
	strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
	excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills



Preferred experience includes:


	experience in power amplifier, LNA, or RF front-end design
	exposure to RF measurement techniques such as load-pull and S-parameter characterisation
	experience with IC layout and awareness of parasitic effects
	prior tape-out or silicon validation experience
	experience working with industry partners or within an IC design environment



Appointment will be made at either HEO 7 or HEO 8 classification level depending on the candidate's profile and experience.

Your place of work:

The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises the Dean's Office, a Student Service Center, four institutes, and the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice. 

Your future position is based with the new Professorship of clinical-psychological intervention research (Prof. Dr. Johanna Böttcher), which will be established in October 2026 at the Institute for Clinical and Health Psychology. The research group investigates innovative digital interventions for mental disorders and psychological distress. The research focuses on acceptance, effectiveness, and mechanisms of action in various digital settings.

The working group actively promotes open and reproducible science (e.g., through pre-registration and the sharing of materials and data) and values diverse perspectives.

Your future tasks:

You will be responsible for and oversee the development of a digital intervention platform that enables the conduct and evaluation of clinical studies with diverse populations. The platform uses the open-source DIRECT platform as its own instance (https://www.ewi-psy.fu-berlin.de/psychologie/einrichtungen/cmhds/direct/index.html)and is intended to be available to all psychology departments.

Your responsibilities include:


	You communicate with the developers of the DIRECT platform as well as with the DIRECT community (researchers and programmers).
	You analyze, manage, and consolidate the platform requirements of the various departments.
	You plan necessary adjustments and enhancements to the platform, commission them, and oversee the development process.
	You are responsible for hosting, maintenance, and support for the live platform.
	You analyze the regulatory framework (e.g., data protection, medical device law) and incorporate it into the planning, consultation, and implementation of research projects on the DIRECT platform.
	You plan data exports and analyses of usage data.
	You participate in research projects and publications.
	You assist with project proposals and the acquisition of third-party funding.
	You give presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
	You participate in and independently conduct courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
	You supervise students. 


This is part of your personality:


	Completed doctoral/PhD degree in psychology, medicine, behavioral sciences, public health, human-computer interaction, or related fields.
	Experience in the development and evaluation of (clinical-psychological) digital interventions.
	Ability to translate psychological or psychotherapeutic concepts into digital formats
	Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., developers, designers, therapists, researchers)
	Analytical and communication skills to bridge gaps between disciplines
	Knowledge of quantitative data analysis (e.g., using R, Python)
