The Israel Technological University was established in 1999. It was the product of the Israel Technological Institute and the Italy Technological Institute merging to become a university. The university is located in Quito, a city in the state of Pichincha and Ecuador’s capital. Quito lies high in the Andean foothills, squeezed in between mountain peaks. The city’s old town, known for its 16th and 17th century churches, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978. In their spare time, students can soak up the rich history of Quito’s colonial centre. The university offers undergraduate courses in the following areas: accounting and auditing, business administration, education, electronics and telecommunications, graphic design, information systems, and psychology. There are also graduate courses available in education, law, marketing, public administration, and telecommunications. Outside of the classroom students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. These include the university’s two student clubs, art club, and literature and literary creation club. Furthermore, the University Student Welfare Unit organises annual cultural events, sports activities and business conferences. Student welfare also plays an important role in supporting students in their both their academic and personal lives. At the heart of the university are four key values namely altruism, excellence, social commitment, and teamwork. By embodying these values the university hopes to contribute to the development of Quito, as well as Ecuador as a whole. Another way in which the university seeks to improve the region is through its high quality research. Throughout the year the university’s students and staff carry out vital scientific research that is published in the Scientific Magazine.
