Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) was originally established in 1998 and welcomed its first admission of students two years later. It was initially known as Kolej Universiti Islam Malaysia (KUIM), but it was renamed Islamic Science University of Malaysia in 2007.
When USIM first welcomed its students in 2000, it was situated on a temporary campus known as Institut Professional Baitulmal, Kuala Lumpur. In 2005 it moved to its permanent campus in Nilai, while the medical faculty remained in Kuala Lumpur.
The university is comprised of nine faculties: Quranic and Sunnah Studies, Syariah and Law, Leadership and Management, Economics and Muamalat, Science and Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Major Language Studies, Dentistry, and Engineering and Built Environment. Each faculty is divided into different departments offering a variety of degree programmes at undergraduate, graduate and PhD level.
USIM is home to several Centres of Excellence that facilitate its research activity. These include the Institute of Fatwa and Halal, the Islamic Science Institute, and the Ummi Maktum Research Centre.
