CUHK LAW now invites applications for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor. The Faculty upholds a robust and ambitious research culture, with research excellence firmly at the core of its academic mission. We place particular emphasis on high-quality scholarship that advances disciplinary debates and contributes meaningfully to global and regional conversations in law.

Candidates for appointment at the Professor level are expected to have an established record of academic leadership in research and/or education at the international level. They should demonstrate a sustained trajectory of influential scholarship and a proven ability to mentor colleagues in advancing the Faculty’s research profile. Appointees at the Associate Professor level should have an internationally recognised reputation for research excellence and a proven capacity to contribute to the Faculty’s research profile. Candidates at this level should already possess a strong portfolio of high-impact publications and a clear scholarly agenda of continuing distinction. Candidates for Assistant Professorships should have completed their doctorate by the time of appointment and either possess a strong record of quality publications or demonstrate clear potential to develop into a productive and impactful scholar. Clear evidence of a coherent research trajectory and commitment to producing high-quality outputs will be essential.

The Faculty particularly welcomes applications in foundational common law subjects (especially private law subjects), artificial intelligence and law, intellectual property law, and PRC law. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates in other areas may also be considered.

(b) a full curriculum vitae;

(c) a teaching statement (maximum 2 pages); and

(d) a statement of major research and scholarly achievements (maximum 3 pages), highlighting up to four representative publications or research outputs from the past five years, with a description of their originality, significance, and rigour.

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis of up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.

The current starting base salary, payable over 12 months, is HK$80,825 per month (approximately US$10,350 / £7,800 per month) for Assistant Professors; HK$100,050 per month (approximately US$12,825 / £9,650 per month) for Associate Professors; and HK$126,370 per month (approximately US$16,200 / £12,190 per month) for Professors. In addition to the base salary, appointees are eligible for a monthly housing allowance and an end-of-contract gratuity, subject to prevailing terms and conditions.

The Position

Title: President

Key Areas of Responsibility:


	The President will provide visionary leadership for the University, in alignment with the mission and Strategic Plan of the University.  The President will further advance the University’s academic excellence in research and professional education and develop its international standing.
	The President will take the lead and direct the University’s development in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, China and internationally, including supporting the continued development of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan).
	The President will work collaboratively with the Council, Senate, senior management, staff, students and external stakeholders in advancing the strategic priorities of the University.
	The President will foster a culture of transparency, accountability, integrity and excellence across the University, and ensure that the University’s operations and decision-making processes are conducted in accordance with established governance, financial and procurement policies and procedures.


The Person

The appointee must have a doctoral degree and a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education. S/he must have a proven record of leadership as well as significant leadership, academic and administrative experience at a senior executive level in a leading university or comparable institution, with a proven track record of leading complex organisations through growth, transformation and change, together with demonstrated experience in working effectively within established governance frameworks and maintaining constructive relationships with governing bodies, academic leadership and diverse stakeholder groups, and an appreciation of the values and objectives of a public university dedicated to quality teaching and scholarship, and an understanding of Hong Kong’s education scene.

The successful candidate should have personal qualifications and characteristics including the highest degree of personal integrity, professional conduct and accountability, outstanding communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to build trust, foster collaboration and achieve consensus among diverse stakeholders, a demonstrated commitment to transparency, fairness, inclusiveness and merit-based decision-making, strong strategic judgement and the ability to balance academic aspirations with sound institutional governance, the ability to operate effectively within a complex and evolving international higher education environment, and a high level of energy, resilience and adaptability required to lead a dynamic institution through opportunities and challenges.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered an initial fixed term contract for five years. The remuneration package will be highly competitive and commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the appointee.

The Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna is seeking to fill a Senior Scientist position (m/f/d) in Austrian history.

Your personal sphere of play:

You hold a PhD in modern history with a specialization in the Habsburg Monarchy or Austrian history and, ideally, several years of postdoctoral experience. Your publications show that you contribute actively and innovatively to current conversations. You read the sources in more than one language of the former Monarchy and navigate its administrative history and archival landscape with confidence. You are thinking ambitiously about scale: how to turn a mass source—court records, the periodical press, legislative materials, or similar—into a researchable corpus that reframes questions and opens the field to new participants.

At the heart of the position is a project you will lead from idea to implementation. We are looking for a plan that combines substantive historical questions with robust digital methods for discovery, processing, and access—whether that means text recognition and modeling, data curation and standards, mapping and visualization, or sustainable repositories and interfaces. You will find close partners in the Faculty’s Digital Humanities research cluster and among Vienna’s archives and libraries; the Institute will support you in building the consortium, securing external funding, and embedding your work in the Institute’s long‑term agenda. Through your networks and the visibility of your research and digitization work, you will help position the IÖG as a hub in transnational research on the Habsburg Monarchy and its successor states.

The position is to be filled as of November 1, 2026, and is a fixed-term position through October 31, 2027, with the option of conversion to a permanent position.

Your future tasks:

Teaching is an integral part of the role. You will offer independent courses within the BA, teacher‑training (LA), and MA programmes in History, with a particular commitment to the MA in Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archival Studies. We value teaching that connects source work and method, and that introduces students to digital tools without losing sight of paleography, diplomatics, and the craft skills that define our profession. You will supervise theses, help develop curricula, and contribute to a lively academic community that includes colloquia, workshops, and visiting fellows.

As a member of the Institute, you will share in academic citizenship: participation in university self‑governance; co‑organizing the Central European History Convention; and contributing to our publication platforms. We welcome colleagues who will write for and help edit the online yearbook Administory and support the editorial work of the Mitteilungen des Instituts für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung and its associated series, bringing high standards and new audiences to our outlets.
