The International University of Tourism and Hospitality is a specialised public higher education institution in Turkistan, Kazakhstan. It was established in 2020 on the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as part of Kazakhstan’s State Programme for the Development of the Tourism Industry. The university was established with the aim of improving tourism products and services and preparing professionals for Kazakhstan’s developing tourism industry.
The university is located on Rabiga Sultan Begim Street in Turkistan, home to the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an important centre along the historic Silk Road.
IUTH is organised into five schools: tourism, hospitality, physical culture and sports, humanities, and languages. Within each school are different departments offering a range of undergraduate programmes in numerous fields of study including organisation of the tourism and hospitality industry, international and domestic tourism, organisation of excursion services and individual tours, hotel and restaurant business, tourism destination management, sports tourism, sports and wellness fitness, event management and tourism guide service. The university also offers master’s programmes in tourism and hotel and restaurant business.
IUTH is distinct for being the first university in Kazakhstan approved as a member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). More recently, the university has sought to strengthen its international links through cooperation with the University of Arizona and participation in the KOPIST programme in South Korea.
