The Role The appointee will provide independent support to research projects and related academic activities. Key responsibilities include: Conducting literature reviews and synthesizing research findings Developing research materials, resources, and programme content Managing research data, performing statistical analysis, and preparing reports Monitoring project progress and ensuring timelines are met Supervising junior research staff (for Senior Research Assistant level) and coordinating day-to-day project operations Assisting in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and other research outputs Supporting other research-related activities as needed Requirements Applicants should possess: A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Education, or a related discipline. For Senior Research Assistant: at least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 1 year of experience, or a Ph.D. degree. Demonstrable ability to independently manage research tasks and supervise junior staff (for Senior level). Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with SPSS or other statistical analysis software is preferred. For Research Assistant I/II: relevant experience or skills in research support activities. For Research Assistant I/II: good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with English word processing speed of at least 50 w.p.m. and Chinese at least 30 w.p.m. are preferred. To deliver teaching across a range of modules or within a subject area, providing curriculum leadership within own area of expertise. Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support Successful candidate will be offered a five-year contract that may be extended by mutual agreement. Salary will be within the range of 454,692 RMB to 598,744 RMB per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). The role Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to work in the Catalysis for Chemical Circularity Group in School of Engineering, University of Surrey. The main role of the post holder will be to carry out experimental based research on PET depolymerisation into monomer chemicals using mechanochemistry, developing research expertise and portfolios in this emerging field towards a circular plastic economy. This interdisciplinary project is in close collaboration with academics in University of Birmingham, Imperial College London and Queen's University of Belfast, and companies in the waste management and plastic production sectors. By participating in the stakeholder engagement, the post holder will gain great insight in the plastic chemical recycling field, and development their professional network and career growth. The main project objectives are: Design efficient nanoscale catalysts and robust mechanochemical process to recycle PET into monomer feedstocks. Benchmark different mechanochemical reaction systems for kinetics and parameter translation. Understand the depolymerisation mechanism using advanced characterisation for further catalyst discovery and process engineering. About you he successful candidate should hold or about to receive a PhD in Material Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. S/he should have a strong background in experimental catalyst design, characterisation and testing. Prior knowledge of mechanochemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, plastic chemical recycling is especially welcomed.
