Description The Perception and Active Cognition (PAC) Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking an Emirati Junior Research Scientist for a 30-month position supporting a collaborative research project between NYUAD and the National Academy of Childhood Development (NACD), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority. Applicants with a background in psychology, neuroscience, linguistics and developmental psychology are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits. This role involves on-site work across NYUAD and NACD facilities and focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience and linguistics. The ideal candidate will contribute to study design, stimulus preparation, data collection, and data analysis, working closely with NYUAD researchers and NACD stakeholders. The position also involves direct interaction with Emirati participants of all ages recruited through NACD, requiring strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, though a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with psycholinguistics, strong computational skills, and a background in developmental psychology or neuroscience. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and interest in the Arabic language research, child development, and research involving local populations. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. This role supports applied food processing research projects with strong industry relevance, focusing on product development, process optimization, and project management. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage applied food processing related research projects in collaboration with Principal Investigators, Co-PIs, and industry partners. Lead applied research on mushroom-, mycelium-, and plant‑based (PB) protein ingredients, with emphasis on improving nutrition, flavour, digestibility, and techno‑functional performance. Design and execute physicochemical and biological processing strategies for protein enhancement, including thermal (UHT, ohmic heating), non‑thermal (ultrasound, high‑pressure homogenisation, microwave, pulsed electric fields), and solvent‑shifting approaches (pH and salt shifting). Evaluate and integrate green processing technologies, including deep eutectic solvents, for protein extraction, off‑taste reduction, and sustainability‑driven process optimisation. Lead the process design for scale-up fractionation and separation from bench-top, to pilot plant scale production involving centrifugation, clarification, recovery and separation of supernatant, and drying process. Support AI‑enabled data analysis, including collaboration on Artificial Neural Networks and Gaussian Process modelling, to accelerate processing optimisation. Consolidate experimental, techno‑economic, and sustainability data into robust technical evidence packages for project reporting, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory or translational decision‑making. Coordinate project timelines, milestones, budgets, procurement of consumables and equipment, and compliance with grant and institutional requirements. Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress updates, and final deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders. Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators to support progress meetings, reporting, and technology transfer activities. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars involved in the projects. Support dissemination of research outcomes through conferences, stakeholder meetings, and approved communication channels. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong Master’s degree holders with relevant experience may be considered. Strong technical background in protein functionality, structure–function relationships, and food biopolymer systems, particularly in plant‑ and fungal‑derived proteins. Demonstrated experience with food processing technologies, including thermal and non‑thermal treatments, fermentation, extrusion, or texturisation methods. Working knowledge of process optimisation tools (e.g. RSM) and familiarity with data‑driven or AI‑assisted modelling approaches is an advantage. Experience in pilot‑scale processing, scale‑up assessment, or techno‑economic evaluation of food ingredients or processes. Hands-on experience in processing trials, analytical characterization, and data interpretation. Ability to translate complex experimental outcomes into industry‑relevant insights, supporting product development, clinical study readiness, and market‑facing prototypes. Strong project ownership mindset, with the ability to balance scientific depth, cost, scalability, and industrial feasibility. Experience working with industrial collaborators, pilot-scale facilities, or product development teams is highly advantageous. Strong scientific writing skills, with experience in preparing manuscripts, technical reports, and funding-related documentation. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Research Technician (Engineering Biology)

The McCarthy Lab has an exciting opportunity for a prospective Research Technician who is interested in synthetic biology approaches to engineer biofilms to better tackle environmental challenges. You will be joining a highly interdisciplinary project, where we will blend synthetic biology, environmental engineering, and biotechnology to develop disruptive solutions to major environmental challenges. Experience with advanced cloning systems, CRISPR tools, metagenomic mining and the use of different biofilm imaging platforms is highly desirable. There will be a particular focus on developing approaches to harness bacterial community behaviours like biofilm formation to better tackle environmental pollutants such as waste plastics. Our aim is to leverage cutting-edge advancements in synthetic biology and biofilm engineering to develop innovative strategies for bioremediation, with a key focus on scalable solutions that can be readily adopted by the waste and water sectors.  This fast-paced project will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop new skills by working closely with our interdisciplinary team and build their international profile including through research visits to academic collaborators and working with SMEs. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and efficient data generation, data management, collation and the reporting of results to the project lead. The post-holder will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, organisational, team working and communication skills and have a keen interest in drafting research outputs for peer-review publication. The successful applicant will work closely with other researchers within the McCarthy Lab and with other EBIC partners. There will also be opportunities to explore the commercial  Applicants must have a BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline. Experience and knowledge in the field of biofilm formation is essential. Experience in some or all of the following: advanced cloning systems, CRISPR tools, metagenomic mining and the use of different biofilm imaging platforms is highly desirable. They should be enthusiastic, well motivated and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. This position is available for 32 months.
