Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy (Ref.: 532566), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in pharmacy, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or other related disciplines, with post-doctoral research experience. Applicants with both a bachelor of pharmacy degree and a Ph.D. degree in pharmacy will be preferred. They should have a strong quantitative and qualitative background; experience in analysing epidemiological data using R, STATA, SAS or other statistical packages; demonstrated expertise in the analysis of large and complex datasets; excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin); and the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in longitudinal analyses, and state-of-the-art statistical and epidemiological models would be an advantage. They should have an excellent track records of academic research, preferably on pharmacoepidemiological studies. Experience in conducting qualitative studies (e.g. patient recruitment, performing interviews and analysing data from interviews and/or surveys) will also be compulsory. In addition, prior clinical and research experience in community pharmacies (local/overseas) will be a must. Since the appointee will be responsible for a project funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, applicants with experience in handling trust-initiated/foundation-funded projects will be highly desirable. 

The appointee will be responsible for coordinating an evaluation study on pharmacy services in primary care using both quantitative and qualitative methods and conducting pharmacoepidemiological research using big data. He/she will be expected to take a leading role in overseeing research projects and supervising junior research staff. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.

About the role

We are looking to recruit two Programme Officers to join our team. The Programme Officer is responsible for essential work contributing to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  They will support students and academic staff as the first point of contact for queries, whether face-to-face, via phone or electronic media. The role is responsible for essential work to support the delivery of our programmes and for ensuring that student lifecycle activities run smoothly. With support to develop a working knowledge of regulations the Programme Officer is a valued and trusted member of a hard-working and friendly team and will have a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

The University of Vienna plans to expand the existing Research Data Management services by offering discipline-specific support through a new Data Stewardship program tailored to meet the discipline-specific needs. The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is therefore looking for a highly motivated person (m/f/d) with professional experience in data management and processing, quality control, data evaluation and analysis or related fields for the position of a Data Steward. The position is initially limited for a period of 1 years. The position may be extended on mutual agreement.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a Data Steward at the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science you will support the scientists in the sustainable handling of research data and the development of strategies for discipline-specific and cross-disciplinary research data management that complies with the FAIR principles. Together with the researchers at the Centre, as well as in exchange with experts from the research-supporting services of the University of Vienna, the Data Stewardship Coordinator of the and data stewards of other faculties, you will further develop Research Data Management within the Centre. You can expect a diverse and promising working environment. 

Your future tasks:


	Focus in the first year: Implementation of an Electronic Lab Notebook, including the development of relevant training materials, templates, and a monitoring system.
	Advisory activities and support for researchers in the field of research data management and open science, with a focus on biological (sequence data, microscopy) and chemical-analytical (mass spectrometry) data and data analysis.
	Design and delivery of tailored training sessions on research data management and open science, particularly within the Vienna Doctoral School of Microbiology and Environmental Science and the Postdoc training at the Center.
	Design of workflows for data exchange and storage of lab-based instruments, as well as their implementation in collaboration with the IT team.
	Design and development of innovative discipline-specific services in research data management.
	Integration with international platforms for the exchange and archiving of research data—awareness-building for sustainable research data management.
	Development of processes, policies, and standards for research data management.
	Support in creating data management plans for national (e.g., FWF Austrian Science Fund) and international research projects (e.g., EU Horizon 2020 Data Management).
	Assistance with the documentation and archiving of research permits, such as those related to the Nagoya Protocol or sample import/export documents.
	Conducting needs assessments among researchers at the center.
	Networking within internal university, national, and international networks and initiatives.


Your profile:


	A completed diploma or master's degree in one of the relevant fields or in data science.
	Experience in research data management and open science.
	Good knowledge of research practice, as well as a broad understanding of how research operates and how data and software underpin reproducible research
	Experience with designing and delivering training
	Very good command of written and spoken English
	Very good command of written and spoken German or a willingness to acquire it
	Willingness to undertake further training
