Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB)

Named after the first president of Côte d’Ivoire – known in the West as “the sage of Africa – Institut national polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny was founded in 1996. Its campus is in the capital city, Yamoussoukro. 

It is made up of 11 undergraduate and graduate schools. At undergraduate level, these include: the school of agronomy; the school of industry; the school of mines and geology; and the school of aeronautics and space. 

The university runs a Fab Lab, where students and researchers can generate ideas, and then design, prototype, manufacture and test them. Facilities include 3D printers, precision cutting, machining and engraving tools and robotics. Among the ideas that have come through the lab is the rapid prototype of an affordable prosthesis.

All students are automatically allocated their own bedroom with private shower. There are two large university restaurants, which offer heavily subsidised meals. 

The university provides PE classes, and also organises an interschool sporting championship. This focuses on team sports – such as basketball, handball, football and volleyball – as well as individual sports, such as athletics, swimming, judo and teqball (a combination of football and table tennis).
