Description The Research Center on Stability, Instability and Turbulence (SITE) a center of the Research Institute, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the fluid mechanics laboratory for experimental fluid dynamics. SITE is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions. SITE is highly interdisciplinary and aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation. Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Applied Physics or a related field. Working in a newly established fluid dynamics laboratory at NYU Abu Dhabi, candidates are expected to have a strong interest in experimental research and collaborate with applied mathematicians closely. Role Overview As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. The SIT Centre for Intelligent Robotics (CIR) is an applied research centre responsible for developing and maintaining core applied robotics and embodied AI capabilities for real-world deployment. CIR is seeking a Robotics Engineer to implement state-of-the-art learning-based robotic manipulation methods on physical platforms for industry-driven applications, with an emphasis on contact-rich manipulation, robustness, and safe operation. The successful candidate will work closely with physical robots to translate recent advances in learning-based robotics into reliable, deployable systems. Key Responsibilities Implement, adapt, and evaluate state-of-the-art learning-based methods (e.g. imitation learning) for contact-rich robotic manipulation. Integrate hardware and software components into a functional system for real-world deployment. Design and execute field trials (test protocols, data logging, troubleshooting, reliability improvements). Produce technical documentation, reports, and implementation guides to support knowledge transfer and maintainability. Support project procurement activities (e.g., technical specifications, vendor evaluation, quotations) for robotics hardware, sensors, and compute resources. Contribute to publications and technical notes to disseminate research outcomes. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. The Research Engineer (Modelling and Simulation) will support a one-year applied research project and evaluate a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves developing detailed power system models in ETAP and MATLAB/Simulink, conducting performance and reliability simulations, and analysing the behaviour of solar PV, BESS, diesel generators, and DC distribution systems. The engineer will also document modelling assumptions, prepare technical reports, support procurement and project operations, and assist in supervising student researchers. This position is ideal for candidates with strong grounding in power system modelling, microgrid technologies, and simulation-based research. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the PI, Co-PI, and team to design a robust mobile DC microgrid for military operations. Develop detailed simulation models simulation models in ETAP and MATLAB/Simulink for solar PV arrays, battery energy storage systems (BESS), vehicle-based deployable storage, diesel generator sets and rectifiers, DC distribution bus and electrical loads. Support the integration of various generation assets into a cohesive DC microgrid model. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university.
