Your working environment: As a postdoctoral research assistant at the Department of Romance Studies, you will collaborate in research and teaching as part of Prof. Dr. Judith Frömmer’s team. Our research focuses on French and Italian literature and media studies, with a historical emphasis on the Early Modern Period and Early Modernity and systematic focuses in the field of political theory and semantics, historical narrative research, and inter- and transmedial phenomena. Current research projects are dedicated to Machiavelli, the translation of early modern love poetry, and the poetics of minor characters. The team currently consists of a professor, a postdoctoral research assistant, a doctoral research assistant, an organisational assistant, and other staff members working on the third-party funded project “Petrarch in Global Translation: A Genealogy of Western Love.” The department is part of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies and offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programs in five Romance languages and teacher-training courses for secondary schools in three languages (French, Italian and Spanish). More than 100 academic staff members and a few thousand students appreciate the diversity of subjects, internationality, outstanding research projects and interdisciplinary cooperation. The position is limited to five years. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: You develop an independent research profile. You are involved in research projects and scientific studies, particularly digital projects in your working group. You publish in internationally recognised organs of publication, give lectures and organise scientific events. You apply for projects and raise third-party funds. You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation or an equivalent qualification. You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You supervise your students. You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance. You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration. This is part of your personality: You have completed a doctorate with a focus on Romance Studies or General and Comparative Literature, with a focus on Italian and French literature. You have experience working with texts from earlier eras, historical knowledge (especially in the field of early modern period), and expertise in the field of digital humanities and AI. Excellent knowledge of Italian and French is essential. A good knowledge of Latin and English is desirable. Field: Photonics, Advanced Materials, Optical Detection Systems Experimental Responsibilities: Lead experiments to characterize and study the properties of new photonics materials. Develop complex optical systems for detecting and controlling optical phenomena, including photonics devices. Supervise students in hands-on experimental research, including developing innovative optical systems. Teaching  Responsibilities: Introduction to Photonics: Principles of light, electromagnetic waves, and basic photonic materials. Advanced Photonics and Materials: Study of photonic materials, optical properties, and their applications in photonics devices. Photonics Lab: Hands-on experience in optical systems design, characterization of photonic materials, and experiments on light-matter interactions. Optical Instrumentation: Practical courses on designing and testing optical sensors and detection systems. Requirements: PhD in Photonics, Optical Physics, or a related field. Expertise in optical detection systems and experience in experimental photonics. Familiarity with advanced material characterization techniques in photonics and optical measurement systems. Teaching Skills: Ability to teach at various levels (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral) and use modern pedagogical methods. Research Skills: Ability to conduct high-impact and independent research and contribute to collaborative projects. The Department of Chemistry at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor in the field of Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry whose research is aligned with one of the following areas: (i) chemical catalysis (homo- or heterogeneous), (ii) bioinorganic chemistry, or (iii) hard and/or energy materials. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a world-class, externally funded research group, including collaboration with industrial partners.
