Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS The Department is strongly committed to producing top-class research in the areas of applied mathematics, scientific computing and statistics, while simultaneously emphasises the nurturing of students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. It receives allocation from Science Faculty Niche Research Area to establish world-class research teams to develop the necessary experimental platforms, modelling and data analysis capabilities. Research Assistant Professor (25260788) Responsibilities: The Department is recruiting one scholar at the rank of Research Assistant Professor with research interests in areas such as applied probability, spatial statistics, and stochastic processes. The appointee is expected to conduct high-impact research and engage in various scholarly activities, including securing research funding, student supervision and taking up teaching duties, if necessary. Requirements: A relevant PhD degree in probability and statistics; Demonstrate potential for excellence in research; Experience in teaching at the university level is also expected; and A promising track record in developing novel models and original methodologies is a definite advantage.  The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract up to two years. The Role: Teaching Fellowship in Music Psychology We seek to appoint a talented individual to the role of Teaching Fellow in Music Psychology, tenable from 1 September 2026. You will contribute to high-quality teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the Department's ongoing efforts to address challenges relating to gender equality, race and decolonisation. You will very likely be required to teach the UG Level 2 module "Music and Science" ( ), contribute seminars about Music Psychology within our newly formulated MA module ("Research in Music"), and provide one-to-one supervision of dissertations at both undergraduate and MA level. Key Responsibilities Teach modules in appropriate learning environments at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, demonstrating an increasing awareness of different approaches to and methods of teaching and supporting student learning; Demonstrate the ability to manage own teaching and designing, planning and writing teaching materials; Lead some aspects of modules and contribute to modules led by others by collaborating with colleagues on course development; Develop and deliver an inclusive curriculum and make an active contribution to an inclusive community in which diversity is embraced and celebrated; Seek and take on board feedback on teaching and engage with others in CPD; Supervise undergraduate student(s), and where appropriate act as part of a PhD supervisory team; Contribute to educational skill of colleagues, e.g. giving a seminar to colleagues or engaging in constructive discussion about a seminar; Build internal contacts and participate in networks to exchange information; Start to engage in scholarship (the creation, development and maintenance of the intellectual infrastructure of subjects and disciplines) e.g. develop online teaching resources; In addition to Board of Studies, membership of some departmental committees and professional body memberships; Student support, assessment of academic performance and provision of feedback, dealing with student disciplinary matters and complaints; Undertake effectively and efficiently any administrative role allocated by your Head of Department. The Role and the Department Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including securing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development. This post sits within the Policy, Systems and Performance team in Research & Innovation Services (RIS). The team is responsible for the University's research information management systems, the overall governance and ethical framework for both funded and unfunded research & research related activities across the institution, support for institutional strategy development and the compilation of relevant returns including HEBCI, KEF, KEC and REF , as well as management information reporting relating to university research and knowledge exchange (RKE) activities. As Research Systems and Information Officer you will contribute to the implementation and development of the RIS RKE systems as well as training and communications about these systems across the University. Current research systems include Worktribe Research Management, Infonetica Ethics RM, and Dynamics CRM. You will contribute to ensuring our research systems are configured in the most optimal and user-friendly way and that any associated training and communications will be delivered in a clear, concise and timely manner. You will analyse research data and develop and present reports to key stakeholders You will report to the Senior Manager - Research Systems and Reporting but will work closely with colleagues across the Research and Innovation Services Directorate as well as colleagues in faculties, departments and across professional support services. It is essential that as Research Systems and Information Officer you are highly organised and pay close attention to detail. The capability to prioritise and manage a busy and varied workload is crucial. The ability to work across business-as-usual activities and multiple concurrent projects at different stages of development is essential. This role is suitable for hybrid working. The base location for this role is Boldon House, our exciting new professional services hub.Boldon House is situated on the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me.
