Where will you be: Your position is based at the Department of Development Studies, a sub-unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, which focuses its teaching and research on the transdisciplinary analysis and critical reflection of global inequalities. Teaching and research therefore centre on theories and approaches to social, political, historical, cultural and economic transformations and inequalities, and their reflection, as well as questions regarding the methodological approach to the subject of ‘development’. We regard transdisciplinary collaboration in both teaching and research as essential for understanding political, economic, social and cultural processes, dynamics, power structures and their interplay at both global and local levels. At the Department of Development Studies, you will join a team of dedicated researchers, work on exciting research projects, and benefit from collegial and transdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the opportunity to engage with a young and enthusiastic generation of students. The research focus of our unit lies in the areas of green extractivism, energy colonialism, hydrogen, post-development, and policies for ecosystemic survival in the Anthropocene. Our regional focus is on southern and western Africa, Latin America and the EU’s external borders. Our research strategies are shaped by post- and decolonial critique, political ecology and critical geography, critical governance research/governmentalities analysis, qualitative, discursive and participative methodologies. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: Independently develop and successfully carry out a postdoctoral project with the aim of securing a tenured position Contribute to the field of development studies from a political science / political-ecological perspective Independent development of / involvement in research projects and research grant applications Collaboration on publications, conferences and events Independently delivering lectures and conducting examinations in accordance with the terms of the appointment, including supervising undergraduates or co-supervising PhD students as part of a team supervision arrangement Assisting with organisational and administrative tasks as well as evaluation procedures Taking over responsibilities within the departmental administration This is part of your personality: A successfully completed, outstanding PhD and a Master’s or Diploma degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Development or a related field with a focus on political science or political ecology Proven expertise in at least two of the following fields: political ecology, political economy, postcolonial/decolonial theory, feminist theory/queer theory, critical security studies, peace and conflict studies, and transformation studies. Description The Water Research Center (WRC) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Scientist to work on advanced membrane technologies for desalination. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Raed Hashaikeh. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research on functional membrane development at both bench and pilot scales. Applicants with a strong background in membrane science, materials, and desalination are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include a competitive salary and benefits. The research focuses on the development of advanced functional materials and processes for sustainable water treatment and desalination. This research is conducted within the Water Research Center (WRC) at NYUAD and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, and physics. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and will contribute to projects spanning fundamental materials development to applied pilot-scale systems. Responsibilities of the position include conducting experimental and/or analytical research on membrane-based desalination technologies (e.g., reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, nanofiltration, membrane distillation), developing novel functional materials, designing and executing lab and field studies, analyzing and interpreting data, contributing to publications and patents, and presenting research findings at meetings and conferences. The candidate will also collaborate with local and international research partners and may participate in limited teaching or mentoring activities. Candidate Qualification and Experience Requirements Candidates must hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field, with at least 6 years of relevant experience in their field (not including the years obtaining the PhD). The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record, including first-author papers, and demonstrated experience in membrane fabrication and characterization. Familiarity with analytical techniques such as XRD, TGA, DSC, DMA, BET, and porometry is highly desirable. Background in analytical or organic chemistry is an asset. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Description The galaxy formation group is looking to appoint an Associate Research Scientist to work on the following topics: Galaxy formation and cosmology ΛCDM paradigm and alternative dark matter theories, large-scale structure, filaments and halos Galaxy dynamics and Galactic archaeology Globular cluster dynamics and evolution Black hole dynamics within galaxies We are looking for a candidate able to use the following methods: N -body controlled and cosmological simulations, Orbital integration methods, Forward modeling of simulated data and analysis of synthetic datasets, Exploitation of data from observational surveys We expect successful applicants to work in collaboration with the other postdocs in the galaxy formation group and with graduate students.
