Université Ibn Khaldoun traces its history back to 1980 when it was established as a university centre. During the 1984-198 academic year, it was replaced by two national institutes of higher education: the National Institute of Agronomy and the National Institute of Civil Engineering. The university centre gained full university status in 2013.
Located in Tiaret, a city in northwestern Algeria, the university enjoys a cool climate and serves as a major agricultural centre of the Sersou Plateau. It is situated southwest of the capital of Algiers in the western region of the Hautes Plaines.
The university comprises nine faculties and institutes, each offering a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. Research is a vital component of the university's activities, with ongoing projects in over 30 subject areas.
