Hyogo Medical University was established in 1972 as a private university in Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan, and received university status in 2004 by the Japan University accreditation association.
The university is divided into five faculties (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation and a graduate school) where students can specialise in various fields including cardiovascular medicine, gastroenterology, haematology, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, respiratory medicine or surgery.
Students can have classes in either of the two campuses. The Sasayama campus hosts the geriatric health services facility, home care support office, rehabilitation centre and Sasayama medical centre. The Nishinomiya campus is much larger and houses most of the departments including the library, administration offices, gym, research labs, pharmacy, student store and hospital.
Hyogo Medical University has ties with Columbia University, Harvard Medical School, the University of California San Diego, James Cook University and the University of Washington where students can experience overseas training programmes. They also offer a competitive student exchange programme with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Saarland University, Tianjin Medical University and Wurzburg University.
