Established more than 200 years ago, in 1810, the Humboldt University of Berlin is one of the most prestigious universities not only in Germany, but in Europe. It has a world class reputation in arts and humanities fields.

Originally known simply as the University of Berlin, it was given its current name in 1949, and is named after both its founder, Wilhelm von Humboldt, and his brother, the esteemed naturalist and alumnus of the institution, Alexander von Humboldt.

HU Berlin is recognised as one of Europe’s pioneering higher education institutions. Wilhelm von Humboldt is credited with developing a model for universities that saw a closer relationship between research and teaching - a model that is still followed in higher education institutions across the world today.

The institution’s academic clout is evidenced by the fact that it has educated no fewer than 29 Nobel prizewinners, including Max Born, who won the prize for physics in 1954; Theodor Mommsen, who won the prize for for literature in 1902; and Wassily Leontief who won the prize for economics in 1973.

In 2006, the federal government’s German Universities Excellence Initiative began allocating additional funding to institutions that proved they were leaders in science and research. In 2012, HU Berlin, was one of 11 institutions to receive this money, enhancing its reputation as one of the country’s elite universities.

Among HU Berlin’s famous alumni are Marxism founders Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, as well as novelist Alfred Döblin, and theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher. Composer Felix Mendelssohn was also a student there, while Albert Einstein spent time as a professor at the university.

The University of Southampton is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave astronomy. The successful candidate will join Greg Ashton’s STFC-funded programme, Advancing Gravitational-Wave Astronomy Using Artificial Intelligence, to work on computational Bayesian inference methods and their astrophysical applications.  Southampton's School of Mathematical Sciences is home to a large research group in gravitational physics, comprising 9 staff members, over 15 postdoctoral researchers, and approximately 15 PhD students. Research in the group includes black-hole and neutron-star physics, gravitational-wave source modelling and data analysis, gravitational self-force modelling and numerical relativity. The group is involved in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the LISA Consortium, the Einstein Telescope collaboration and the Cosmic Explorer consortium.  Candidates should demonstrate a track record of research in gravitational-wave astronomy. The applicant will have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD degree in physics or mathematics.  This is a full-time post, available from the 5th of January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded for two years with the possibility of a 1-year extension. Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. About the Department/College The Department of Educational Specialties (ESP) is part of the College of Education (COE) and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in applied behavior analysis, special education, bilingual and multicultural education, career and technical education, and educational technology. Courses are designed with flexibility in mind to support students as they balance work, family, and academic responsibilities, and coursework is directly connected to the knowledge and skills required in applied settings. The Department of Educational Specialties prepares professionals to meet the needs of all learners in today's classrooms and communities. As a core faculty member, the successful candidate will be involved in teaching, accreditation, and programmatic decision-making for the graduate programs in ABA.About the Position The Department of Educational Specialties is seeking a full-time, career- track (non-tenure) faculty position beginning Fall 2026 to coordinate the MEd in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Graduate Certificate programs. The successful candidate will teach asynchronous online courses for students preparing to take the national exam to become BCBAs, as well as lead the process of securing professional association accreditation to meet the BACB's 2032 Pathway 1 requirements. We are interested in candidates who have experience providing behavior analytic services and have mentored and supervised others providing interventions based on the science of ABA. We encourage applications from candidates who have experience with accreditation and program leadership. This position is located on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus.Responsibilities Include Teach online graduate classes in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS).
