Huachiew Chalermprakiet University was founded by the Poh Tek Sieng Tung Overseas Chinese Foundation, the largest Chinese charitable organisation in Thailand.
The university has a history that dates back to 1941 when the Huachiew Hospital and Midwifery School was established. In 1982 the Huachiew Hospital was expanded into a general hospital and turned the midwifery school into a nursing college named Huachiew College. The college gained university status in 1990 and became Huachiew Chalermprakiet University.
There are 12 faculties within the university: pharmaceutical sciences, nursing, physical therapy, public and environmental health, social work and social welfare, communication arts, Chinese medicine, medical technology, science and technology, law, business administration, and liberal arts. Each faculty offers a range of bachelor, master’s and doctorate degree programmes. There is also the College of Chinese Studies and the Graduate School.
The university offers three international programmes: bachelor of arts in English-Chinese, bachelor in business administration – international programme, and bachelor of arts in business English.
The university is located in Samut Prakan Province, one of Thailand’s central provinces. Samut Prakan lies at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River along the Gulf of Thailand and is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
