About the Service The Finance Department at the University of East London plays a key role in managing the University's financial resources to ensure stability, efficiency, and strategic investment in its future, aligned with Vision 2028. We provide a comprehensive range of financial services, including budgeting, financial and tax planning, compliance, and advisory support, ensuring the University operates smoothly. Our responsibilities also include the preparation of annual financial statements, statutory reporting, and regulatory submissions. We work proactively with schools and services staff, and students to offer financial guidance, maintain compliance, and drive value for money across all operations. About the Job: As Associate Director: Financial Planning and Analysis, you will lead complex forecasting, analysis and reporting for the Financial Management team, supporting decision-making across the whole UEL group in the UK and overseas. You will manage a direct team and influence colleagues across different teams to ensure robust planning, reporting and regulatory compliance. You will: Lead complex forecasting and commercial analysis, including tuition fee income, new degree programmes and other developments, informing the Medium-Term Financial Strategy. Coordinate and reconcile the consolidated group budget and forecasts, ensuring timely, accurate and value-adding monthly reporting across income & expenditure, balance sheets, cashflows, debt and capital. Take responsibility for key statutory and regulatory returns and financial analysis, including TRAC and the Annual Financial Return, ensuring clear internal processes, deadlines and approvals. Maintain effective processes, templates and methodologies for proposals and performance reporting, ensuring systems and resources are used efficiently and supporting Finance Business Partners with analytical duties as required. About You: You will be a qualified finance professional with strong analytical capability and the ability to lead and influence others across a complex organisation, including in a global group context. You will bring: ACCAB accounting qualification or CIMA qualification (or equivalent). Experience of management accounting, business partnering, and financial budgeting and forecasting. Familiarity with international group structures and consolidations across income & expenditure, balance sheets and cashflows. Experience working with complex datasets, producing useful analysis, and analysing complex problems where data is limited, with strong attention to detail. We are seeking a Research Fellow in Liquid Metal Artificial Enzymes to join the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary research programme focused on the design, synthesis, and characterisation of liquid metal nanomaterials as catalytic artificial enzymes for biomedical and bioengineering applications. The role will involve developing gallium-based liquid metal nanostructures and catalytic systems, investigating their physicochemical properties, catalytic mechanisms, and interactions with biological environments. The postholder will design and conduct experiments to evaluate catalytic activity, stability, and functionality in biologically relevant conditions. You will contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and the preparation of research publications, while working collaboratively with researchers across materials science, nanotechnology, and bioengineering. The successful candidate will also contribute to mentoring postgraduate researchers, supporting collaborative research projects, and assisting with the preparation of future research funding proposals. About You You will hold a PhD in Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline (or have equivalent professional experience), with a strong background in experimental research. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: Nanomaterials synthesis and characterisation Liquid metal materials or gallium-based nanomaterials Artificial enzymes or nanozymes Catalysis at biointerfaces or reactive nanomaterials Advanced materials characterisation techniques (e.g., electron microscopy, spectroscopy, surface analysis) You will be motivated to work in a multidisciplinary research environment, collaborating with researchers across engineering, materials science, and biomedical fields.
