The position is limited initially to four years, with the possibility of a permanent extension after an evaluation of the University of Vienna's Core Facility 'ACTRIS Aerosol Observatory' in the fourth year. Your personal sphere of influence: As a technician with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (e.g. a focus on (micro-)electronics, optoelectronics, automation technology), mechatronics, aerospace engineering, technical computer science or similar or a recognized equivalent (e.g. state-certified technician (D)) you will support the research work of the Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics working group. In an international university research environment, you can expect a varied job, and as part of our team of technicians, you will exchange ideas and complement each other’s work. You will be involved in the construction and operation of the future ACTRIS National Facility/University of Vienna Core Facility for in-situ aerosol measurements and will work on trend-setting projects in atmospheric and climate research. In doing so, you will regularly cooperate with leading international institutions such as the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Your future tasks: You will support the scientists of the aerosol group with technical solutions, and maintenance and troubleshooting of measurement instruments. You will help set up and operate measurement systems, develop instrument controls and real-time visualizations. You will contribute to the operation and further development of IT infrastructure and measurement infrastructure. You will automate the operation and calibration of aerosol instruments, professionalize data collection and establish robust work-flows for data management and processing. You will support scientists in data analysis and carry out quality controls. You will support the monitoring of the measurement instruments and data collection during multiweek measurement campaigns with research aircraft abroad, in cooperation with international partner institutions. You will support the ongoing operation of the laboratories (calibration, maintenance and spare parts management/orders). You will create and maintain technical documentation.
