About Harran University
Basic information and contact details for Harran University
Harran University is a state university located in the ancient city of Şanlıurfa, Turkey. Officially founded in 1992, Harran emerged by uniting four pre-existing institutions, including the Şanlıurfa Vocational School, Faculty of Agriculture, Civil Engineering Department, and the Faculty of Theology into a single institution.
Located within the northern arc of the Fertile Crescent in south-eastern Turkey, Şanlıurfa is a city with a rich history which dates back over 11,000 years.
Today, the university operates across three main campuses, offering a comprehensive academic structure, which includes 14 faculties, four vocational schools, a state conservatory, three institutes, and 15 applied vocational schools.
Its main Osmanbey campus spans approximately 27,000 decares along the Şanlıurfa-Mardin highway and includes a wide variety of modern facilities such as an indoor Olympic swimming pool, amphitheatre, dormitories for 2,000 students, an artificial lake, and the Atatürk Arboretum.
Throughout the academic year, the university hosts a wide range of international conferences, develops projects in agricultural innovation, and collaborates with regional industries to support sustainable development.
Its strong emphasis on health sciences, engineering, and agriculture reflects the needs of southeastern Turkey, particularly in the context of the GAP (Southeastern Anatolia Project), making it a key contributor to both cultural preservation and future-oriented growth.
