GIST is a research-oriented national university of science and technology located in Gwangju, South Korea. Established in 1993, GIST was founded with the support of the Korean government to meet the nation's demand for advanced research and to promote higher education in science and engineering. Since then, GIST has demonstrated excellence in education and research despite its relatively short history.

GIST began as a graduate school-focused research university and now operates various majors including the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Robotics Engineering, Environment and Energy Engineering, Life Sciences, Integrated Technology, Physics and Chemistry, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, and the AI Graduate School. These departments actively support cutting-edge research fields.

All courses at GIST are taught in English. This enables students from various countries to adapt more easily and supports interdisciplinary courses and credit transfer, maximizing academic experiences across different fields. The curriculum offers a balanced opportunity to learn both theory and practice. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a high-resolution ambient temperature model that accurately translates Land Surface Temperature (LST) maps from satellite imagery into actual ambient temperature readings with minimal error margins. This will enable urban designer to effectively evaluate the impact of Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation measures and validate simulation results from microclimate models. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Weather station deployment and other urban microclimate sensors in selected locations to gather real-time ambient data Data collection, analyse the ambient temperature data, and correlating pixel-based surface temperature data with ground-based measurements to support model validation Technical data integration of 3D building data such BIM model and geospatial data such as hard surface, greenery in Geographical Information System (GIS) such as QGIS open platform. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of sustainable built environment, including in neighbourhood and building-scale modelling. Have a degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering or Sustainable Built Environment or Building Science. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous. Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) database processing and analysis will be advantageous Key Competencies Able to develop 3D model at neighbourhood and building-scale Have analytical skills to understand the correlation between different climate data with geospatial data. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development Proficient in technical writing and presentation Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills Show strong initiative and take ownership of work

Classification: Academic Level A Salary package: $89,313 - $112,103 per annum plus 17% superannuation Term: Full-time, Fixed Term (up to March 2028) Position Description and Selection Criteria: PD & PEWER_Postdoctoral Fellow_Academic Level A.pdf The Position The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to a project funded under the DARPA Heterogeneous Architectures for Quantum Computing (HARQ) program, “A memory-enabled linear optics quantum processor”, with Principal Investigator A/Prof Rose Ahlefeldt. The project goal is to build and demonstrate a multifunctional device, using erbium-based crystals, capable of all telecom optical quantum state generation, storage, and processing operations required for a quantum-teleportation-based interconnect between quantum computers. The successful candidate will be based at the University under the supervision of A/Prof. Rose Ahlefeldt, and will be responsible for the development of a cryogenic system for testing and optimising the device performance, as well as developing single-photon detection systems for entanglement distribution. Beyond this focus, the successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of the program, including student supervision, publication and report writing, and communicating results to the funding body, international teams, and the public. They will have the opportunity to present results at national and international conferences and meetings with the broader HARQ  performer teams. This is a multi-disciplinary project, sitting at the intersection of quantum optics, atom-light physics, and solid state physics, with a long-term goal to commercialise the developed technology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in this process, along with developing a broad range of quantum technology expertise. The Person To excel in this role, you will be a motivated experimental problem-solver, with: A PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment commencement) in experimental optical, solid state, or quantum physics. Demonstrated expertise in an area related to optical quantum technology. Particularly desirable is expertise in rare earth or solid-state coherent spectroscopy; quantum optics; or quantum technology applications of atom-light physics. Experience with low temperature measurements in cryogenic systems, or single-photon-level optical measurements (continuous or discrete variable). A strong motivation to work with a collaborative team to deliver achieve project milestones throughout the project duration. Demonstrated ability to foster respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environments.
