About the Job

The College of Architecture & Design at WKU is seeking engaged and experienced candidates to teach undergraduate studio and lecture courses within the professional interior design program, with expertise and or Research in one or more of the following areas: residential design, building structure, ambient lighting design, spatial planning, computer-aided drafting, construction drawing and documentation. Relevant professional practice and/or university-level teaching experience is required; three or more years of experience is preferred. In addition to teaching and/or research, faculty are expected to devote non-teaching hours to advising and providing other student support services, primarily career mentorship and placement. The ideal candidate will contribute intellectually to the formation of this professional program by developing research and/or creative scholarship, including refereed publications, competitive creative work, scholarly presentations, and sponsored projects appropriate to an assistant academic level; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; and actively engaging with professional organizations.

All faculty positions are full-time assignments, effective for the start of the Fall 2027 semester. These positions are full-time assignments, appointed on a 3-year contract at the first instance, and are renewable upon a successful reappointment review.

Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. All faculty may be required to teach General Education courses as needed. Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses. A Lecturer is a full-time employee who teaches 30 credits per year (10-month type) or 39 credits per year (11-month type) 11-month employee who teaches 39 credits per year and provides student and learning support services during the assigned period. A tenure-track Assistant Professor is a full-time, 10-month employee who teaches 24 credits per academic year. Tenure-track faculty normally teach 2 different courses, with each section typically consisting of 15 students. Faculty is required to conduct research, provide high quality teaching and provide service to the university and/or professional community. The university will provide start-up grants (up to 80,000 RMB) supporting their research programs. After joining WKU, faculty will apply to external grants at the municipal, provincial, and national levels. Faculty members successfully obtaining eligible external grants will be afforded release time ranging from 3-12 credits per year. Six credits of teaching release time will be provided to new faculty each year for the first three consecutive years of the appointment to support external research grant development and other significant research endeavors.

Qualifications:

A terminal degree in Interior Design is required for tenure-track positions. A master’s degree in interior design with relevant professional practice may be considered for lecturer positions, as determined by the University. Candidate must have a proven record of professional work and/or academic scholarship. A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and English fluency are required for all positions.

Job Description:

A postdoctoral position is currently available in the field of Membrane and Electrode Technologies for Battery and Fuel-Cell Systems. The aim of this position is to advance scientific research and development of high-performance specific membranes for different applications (Catalytic materials and electrodes for fuel cell applications; Polymer electrolyte for Lithium-ion Batteries). The main objective of this position is to develop and synthesize suitable membranes, optimize their integration and shaping into functional electrodes or electrolyte, and finally evaluate their performance through fuel cell and battery testing.

The candidate will be involved in:


	Conducting original scientific research in the field of Membranes, Polymers for Batteries and fuel cells.
	Characterizing the developed membranes using appropriate physicochemical, structural, morphological, and electrochemical techniques.
	Investigating the integration of polymer electrolyte membranes with catalytic electrodes to develop and optimize membrane–electrode assemblies.
	Designing Polymer Electrolye for safe batteries,
	Performing electrochemical and fuel cell performance tests under controlled operating conditions.
	Analyzing experimental results and preparing characterization and performance reports.
	Drafting scientific publications and patents.


Position Requirements:


	Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Energy Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
	Strong background in battery systems, fuel-cell technologies, hydrogen technologies, or electrochemical energy conversion.
	Demonstrated experience in membrane synthesis, processing, and characterization.
	Knowledge of electrode fabrication, catalyst deposition, and electrode-forming techniques.
	Proficiency in physicochemical and electrochemical characterization methods.
	Experience in fuel-cell and battery testing, electrochemical measurements, and hydrogen-consumption analysis would be a significant advantage.
	Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data and establish correlations among material properties, electrode characteristics, and electrochemical performance.
