Guimaras State University first began as a secondary vocational school, Buenavista Vocational School, in 1964.

In 1980 the school was granted permission to offer post-secondary courses, and in 1995 it became Guimaras Polytechnic College. After a few more developments, it became Guimaras State University in 2022. 

The university has one main campus, the Salvador Campus, in Guimaras. 

The university offers bachelors and graduate programmes in a range of subjects including agriculture, food technology, entrepreneurship, tourism management, criminology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science and education among others.

Their work involves enhancing the existing deep learning models to ensure high detection accuracy and improve navigation within open-field environments. This person will also be responsible for the mechatronic aspects of the project, such as the upgrade of the drive controller, optimising nozzle resolution, operating speed, and dosing consistency, while ensuring the seamless integration of the weeding system with the CALLAN mobile field-robot platform. The person will also provide a team leadership role in leading a team of students and interns who are contributing to the project.
