Gonbad Kavous University was founded in 1983 as an agricultural school and is now the largest higher education institution in eastern Golestan province, in Iran. It is located in the historic city of Gonbad Kavous. The university became independent in 2007 and gained full university status in 2013.
Today, Gonbad Kavous University has over 3,600 students studying 68 programmes across five faculties, from associate degrees to PhDs. It has labs, sports facilities and student housing.
Research focuses on watershed and desert management, horticulture, rangeland ecology and agriculture, helping support sustainable development in the region.

Overview:

Join a multidisciplinary research team supporting a portfolio of projects exploring why pro-environmental and prosocial intentions often fail to translate into sustained action. Research topics include connection (interconnectedness, compassion), agency, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, behavior change, mindfulness, organizational and consumer behavior, and intervention design across cultural contexts.

Key responsibilities


	Lead/support study design, literature reviews, and protocol development across projects
	Develop surveys, experiments, and intervention materials; assist with piloting and fidelity checks
	Recruit and coordinate participants and manage fieldwork in Hong Kong and across Asia Clean, code, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data (R/SPSS/Stata; NVivo/ATLAS.ti or similar)
	Draft IRB/ethics submissions, pre registrations, methods sections, reports, and manuscripts
	Prepare policy/practice briefs and present findings to academic and practitioner audiences
	Manage project documentation, timelines, data storage, and partner coordination


Minimum qualifications & skills


	PhD in Psychology, Behavioral Science or related field
	Strong quantitative and qualitative methods skills; experience with experiments/interventions preferred
	Familiarity with behavior change frameworks (e.g., TPB, Self-Determination Theory), mindfulness/compassion literature desirable
	Experience publishing or presenting research preferred; strong academic writing ability Comfortable working independently and in remote, multicultural teams; excellent organization and communication
	Fluent in English; Chinese literacy is an advantage

The Position

Role Description

We welcome applications from passionate, analytical and motivated researchers to advance understanding of how carbon is stored, stabilised and preserved in soils and underlying parent materials.

About the Role

This is a Research Fellow role embedded within a major externally funded research programme in soil science. You will lead the delivery of a substantial component of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, delivering advanced biogeochemical research to determine the origin, age and stability of organic carbon within soil parent materials. The role will involve applying and interpreting analytical and isotopic approaches, including radiocarbon methods, to distinguish petrogenic organic carbon from biospheric carbon inputs and quantify their contribution to carbon storage. You will contribute to field and laboratory research, coordinate specialist analytical workflows including work with external facilities such as the National Environmental Isotope Facility Radiocarbon Laboratory, analyse complex datasets, and publish high-quality scientific outputs. Working closely with the research lead and wider project team, you will help deliver novel interdisciplinary research across soil biogeochemistry, carbon stability and long-term carbon storage.

About You

You will be educated to doctoral level in soil biogeochemistry, geochemistry, soil science, environmental science, biogeoscience or a related discipline, with experience of conducting independent research in laboratory and field settings. You will have expertise in soil carbon analysis and interpretation, and ideally experience of isotopic or radiocarbon approaches relevant to environmental materials. You will be confident designing and delivering analytical workflows, interpreting complex datasets and preparing work for publication. With strong organisational and problem-solving skills, you will be able to manage multiple research activities to deadline and work effectively both independently and as part of a wider interdisciplinary team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to engage confidently with collaborators, students and external partners. Willingness to travel within the UK and, where required, to external analytical facilities is essential.

Your position:

The Institute for Systematic Theology and the Study of Religions is a sub-unit of the Faculty of Protestant Theology. The vacant position as university assistant (praedoc) serves to strengthen our teaching and research portfolio.

We are looking for Protestant theologians with a special interest in working on research questions in Systematic Theology (Dogmatics, Ethics and Philosophy of Religion).

Your future tasks:

	Completed Master's degree in Protestant Theology or a corresponding teaching degree (the degree certificate must be available by the date of employment at the latest)
	Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both German and English, together with demonstrated competence in Classical Greek and Biblical Hebrew.
	Experience in professional academic editing and in the organization of scholarly conferences.
	Demonstrated interest and proven experience in the field of ecumenical studies, both in research and teaching.
	Proficiency in the use of standard IT applications.
	A strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with related academic disciplines.
