Goethe University in Frankfurt is named after the preeminent figure in German literature and most celebrated son of Frankfurt, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who also made a major contribution to the sciences. It was inspired by his Enlightenment ideals and originally established as a “citizens’ university” with financial support from private sources, but now enjoys a funding model highly unusual within German higher education.  

This gives it a significant level of state funding combined with freedom to build its own endowment. (When it celebrated its centenary in 2014, over 70 million Euros were donated to the university.) This has led to almost complete autonomy in administrative and academic matters such as the appointment of staff.

A relatively small city with a wide range of cultural attraction, Frankfurt has an enviable reputation for its quality of life and, as the leading financial centre in Europe, also has an extremely international outlook and population. These are very much assets for Goethe University too, which is committed to global partnerships, offering its students the chance to spend time abroad and bringing in foreign scholars as part of its “international campus” initiative.

The university is currently based on four separate campuses, each with it their own distinctive flavour. The medical school and hospital, for example, are located at Niederrad, on the banks of the river Main, close to many of Frankfurt’s main museums. The new Westend Campus is even more attractive, with the latest teaching and leisure facilities set in a park environment and a range of buildings faced in travertine stone.

A world-class research university with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary approaches, Goethe University is particularly well regarded for its work in medicine and physics as well as highly applicable contributions to economics and business administration.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on a research project, funded by Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE), where you will be part of the research team to develop a scalable and comprehensive framework for formal verification of quantum programs. The framework consists of the following deliverables: Intermediate Language. We plan to develop an intermediate language to model quantum programs. The intermediate language would be complete to describe all the desired characteristics of quantum computing while at the same time simple enough to be understood by most programmers. Formal Verification Framework. We plan to develop a comprehensive framework to verify the correctness of quantum programs written in the proposed intermediate language. Mechanization. We plan to mechanize the formal framework using state-of-the-art theorem provers such as Coq or Isabelle/HOL. Proof Automation. We plan to develop formal methods for automatic reasoning that can be materialized into commercial tools. Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: develop an intermediate language to write quantum programs. develop a comprehensive framework to verify the correctness of quantum programs written in our intermediate language. mechanize the verification framework using state-of-the-art theorem provers such as Coq or Isabelle/HOL. develop formal methods for automatic reasoning that can be materialized into commercial tools. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of formal methods (including theorem proving and model checking), quantum computing, and software analysis/verification. Have a degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related areas. Possessing a Master degree will be advantageous. Knowledge of quantum circuit design and quantum program analysis/verification will be advantageous. Cancer Research UK Clinical Training Research Fellow This post offers the opportunity to gain experience in cancer research as part of a comprehensive centre for treatment and research. It is designed to fulfil the requirements for an out-of-programme experience for a specialist trainee in oncology, haematology surgery, pathology or any other disciplines related to cancer, but may also be suitable for an individual who does not yet have a national training number and wishes to pursue a career in the cancer field. You will take part in a structured training programme of research leading to submission of a higher degree and there are excellent opportunities to maintain your clinical skills within the CRUK Southampton Research Centre. The post is not formally recognised for training but there are well-developed site specialised multidisciplinary teams that afford the opportunity to gain expertise in the outpatient and inpatient management of all tumour types.
