Gaziantep Islamic Science and Technology University is a public higher education institution that was established in 2019. It is located in Gaziantep, the capital of Gaziantep province, in Turkey’s south-eastern Anatolia region.

The university has eight faculties: engineering and natural sciences; health sciences; medicine; dentistry; economics, administrative and social sciences; law; fine arts, design and architecture; and theology. In addition, it has several other institutes, colleges and vocational schools.

About 1,500 of the university’s students are pursuing associate degrees, while almost 4,000 are on the undergraduate track. More than 200 students are seeking a master’s qualification. Across the campus are about 700 international students, with the largest cohort from Syria. There are some 200 teaching staff at Gaziantep Islamic Science and Technology University.

A number of scholarship opportunities are available to students. 

The university has an internationalisation strategy focused on education and research, including sustainable scientific collaborations with institutions worldwide, and it has a number of agreements with universities in Europe and elsewhere. 

The university has an array of clubs and social activities for students. There are also a number of sports facilities.

The research programme is called “Metals for a Green Ireland: Developing innovative mineral systems and exploration tools” and is focussed on the provision of the critical and strategic raw materials required for the green transition, with a focus on sedimentary basins. The research group will initially comprise 13 members from senior research fellows to PhD students, involves field sites on three continents and collaboration with industry and other stakeholders. This Research Fellow will lead a work package “Georesources and Society” and will be co-supervised by Assoc. Prof. Geertje Schuitema, School of Business. Visualising, interpreting, and utilising the sub-surface is a fundamental skill in the geosciences. Social scientists are experts in risk perceptions, risk communication and decision-making. The aim of this interdisciplinary project is to understand how different stakeholders perceive the subsurface, how they assess the risks of sub-surface usage (e.g. mining or geothermal energy) and how they use these perceptions, including potential biases, to form attitudes and make decisions. In Ireland, what type of use of the sub-surface is acceptable, by which stakeholders and in which contexts? Which values underpin these decisions? Finally, what kind of information do stakeholders need to have to feel confident in the use of the sub-surface for georesource purposes? The aim of this project is to provide empirical data that facilitates decision making. The results of this will feed into the design of interventions that aim to increase trust and confidence of stakeholders in decisions involving georesources. The purpose of the role is to deliver a specific research project. The role allows the Research Fellow the professional development opportunity to demonstrate the capacity for independent and self-directed research and scholarship and the management of a research team. The role allows the Fellow to assemble a portfolio of independent achievement and render themselves competitive for tenured academic positions or senior scientific roles in industry. In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project: Lead the day-to-day management of the project including data management, ethics approvals and delivery of milestones and deliverables Use appropriate methodologies e.g. empirical surveys, interviews, focus groups to collect data for analyses Analyse data using appropriate research analysis techniques and analysis software Build and maintain appropriate relationships with other academic researchers, funders, industry and government officials. Description The galaxy formation group is looking to appoint an Associate Research Scientist to work on the following topics: Galaxy formation and cosmology ΛCDM paradigm and alternative dark matter theories, large-scale structure, filaments and halos Galaxy dynamics and Galactic archaeology Globular cluster dynamics and evolution Black hole dynamics within galaxies We are looking for a candidate able to use the following methods: N -body controlled and cosmological simulations, Orbital integration methods, Forward modeling of simulated data and analysis of synthetic datasets, Exploitation of data from observational surveys We expect successful applicants to work in collaboration with the other postdocs in the galaxy formation group and with graduate students. Your personal field of activity: The research group “Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation”, led by Univ.- Prof. Dr. Philip Walther, is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics & Quantum Information group at the Faculty of Physics and a member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) – one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe – and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quantA. The group’s research combines the development of scalable photonic quantum technology for quantum computing and other quantum information applications with the investigation of fundamental quantum science questions. The main activities range from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces. For our further reinforcement we are looking for a Senior Scientist that supports, in particular, the research on theoretical and experimental quantum cryptography. The position is currently limited to 1 year with the possibility of subsequent unlimited employment. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: You develop and strengthen an independent research profile. You are involved in research projects/research studies. You publish internationally and give presentations. You are responsible for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding. You hold courses independently as defined by the collective agreement. Pre-employment safety and suitability checks: In accordance with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence, appointment to this role is subject to successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, including Working With Children Checks and candidate gender-based violence declarations.  Candidates may be asked to declare whether they have been investigated for an allegation of Gender‑based Violence, or determined to have engaged in conduct that constitutes Gender‑based Violence during the course of their previous employment, or otherwise in a legal process. A declaration is not required from individuals who have experienced gender‑based violence. A ‘Yes’ response does not automatically exclude a candidate from employment, and any information provided will be treated confidentially and considered only for relevance to the role and the University’s safety obligations.
