Fukushima University is a national university located in Fukushima, Japan, and was founded in 1949 with the merger of three colleges: Fukushima College of Economics, Fukushima Normal School, and Fukushima Youth Normal School. There are five faculties: administration and social science; economics and business administration; food and agricultural sciences; human development and culture and symbiotic systems science. As well as this, there are four graduate schools and tjhree research centres. The university has international partnerships with several countries including Australia, Canada, UK, and the USA, working to offer research and student exchange programmes. Fukushima is known for its nuclear disaster in 2011, however the university is working to provide volunteers and carry out research projects to help the community with the post-disaster recovery. Students help at evacuation centres, clean up homes and collect donations. To recognise their efforts, Fukushima University included volunteering activities in the Self Study Programme, believing that this volunteering will support the community and create greater student autonomy. The university has also created the Fukushima Future Studies minor to train students to build the future, learning from the events of 2011. The minor specialises in practical learning over four years, with a year of specialised lab and field work. Fukushima’s economy strives with its booming tertiary sector, with companies such as Fukushima Bank, Toho Bank and Daiyu 8 located there. The Fukushima area is known for its cherry blossoms, Onsen resorts and role as one of the world’s largest fruit producers, notably peaches.

Description The Environmental Genomics Laboratory in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks a Junior Research Scientist to investigate the genetic and environmental factors modulating the human immune response during lifestyle transitions in Mongolia. This role is an excellent opportunity for an individual with fieldwork experience in resource-limited settings, robust experimental skills in immunology and microbiome research, and hands-on experience in multi-omics analysis. The successful candidate will implement and execute fieldwork protocols in Mongolia, including biological sample and data collection, perform lab-based multi-omics experiments, and conduct computational analyses using statistical genetics. Additionally, the role involves maintaining lab safety and data security, alongside providing direct supervision and mentorship to undergraduate students, research assistants, and visiting scholars. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Required qualifications include hands-on experience in field-based and multi-omics research within resource-limited settings, demonstrated experience in multi-omics data generation and analysis, and a track record of publication(s) directly related to the topic of the study. Experience in multi-omics approaches, prior research experience in Mongolia, and experience coordinating international field research are important assets for this project. The university is seeking to employee a Research Assistant ( HEO 5) to support the delivery of a research project which received $980K funding through the Medical Research Fund Traumatic Brain Injury mission. The project, "Enhancing Community Engagement in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Rehabilitation Through the Social Brain Toolkit" involves developing and piloting an innovative model of care - the Social Brain Clinic. The Social Brain Clinic involves student speech pathologists and mentors with lived experience of TBI working together to provide online programs to rebuild communication skills, to people with TBI located across Australia. This role will be embedded within the University of Sydney's ABI Communication Lab (Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Communication Lab - ABI Communication Lab) - a dynamic team of researchers, academics and clinicians who are developing innovative approaches in brain injury rehabilitation. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the multidisciplinary project team. They will take on a range of responsibilities including providing practice education for speech pathology students, supporting research data collection and management, developing resources and project communications, and participating in strategic planning for sustainability of this new clinic.
