Fudan University in Shanghai, China, was founded in 1905 and originally named the Fudan Public School. It was granted the status of a private university in 1917.

Today, Fudan has a 30,000-strong student population with international students comprising around 15% of all undergraduates.

The university offers 70 undergraduate degree programmes across the arts, humanities and sciences, and prides itself on having an international outlook. A number of its courses are taught in English and the institution boasts global connections and exchange programmes with almost 200 overseas universities. Study abroad schemes are encouraged at Fudan, with 40% of undergraduates electing to embark in international exchange.

The university takes a liberal arts approach to education, with an ethos based on the belief that academic study is most effective when combined with individual development of character, an understanding of different cultures and a teaching of independent research methods. To meet these ends, Fudan adopts an innovative teaching approach combining ideology and culture in lectures and conferences – many of which are broadcast publicly on the internet.

A strong emphasis is also placed on practical training, and the university has a number of initiatives in place to assist students with their own projects, including the university’s undergraduate academic research financial aid platform which assists 500 students each year with funding their own independent academic research. Fudan's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (FDUROP) also gives students the facilities to showcase their ideas.

Outside the classroom, there are over 300 clubs and organisations for students to get involved in. With more than 2,000 club events taking place each month at Fudan, it is little wonder that students regularly refer to the ‘hundred club battle’ when planning their extra-curricular activities.

The Tax and Transfer Policy Institute (TTPI) works to build the evidence base, encourage debate, and improve understanding of the tax and transfer system. The TTPI undertakes empirical analysis and evaluation of tax and transfer policies; analyses, educates and engages in public debate on the tax and transfer system; and brings together academics and policy makers to build capability and a community of researchers on tax and transfer policy issues. We are seeking a research fellow to play a central role in the recently awarded Australian Research Council funded project “Better childcare policy: parental labour supply and provider responses” (DP260101621). Working closely with Chief Investigator Professor Robert Breunig, this role will include driving and delivering on an ambitious research agenda. The fellow will work with domestic and international collaborators to undertake analysis, present and publish findings in leading peer-reviewed journals as well as actively support TTPI initiatives. This may include teaching in TTPI’s executive education programs, PhD student supervision, contributing to TTPI tax and transfer fact sheets, policy briefs and major reports, while also partnering with governments, academics, business and the community to produce, synthesise and share research insights. Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in Economics or a related field and a strong publication record. You will be fully proficient in Stata and/or R. You will be an expert in Australian Administrative and Survey Data and Australian Public Policy, have a strong understanding of the Tax and Transfer System, and be committed to continual improvements in both. The role will involve working closely with key university stakeholders, clinical academic coordinators, subject coordinators and students, along with participating in related scholarship activities in facilitating quality pre- and post-placement learning and teaching for onshore international students. Duties will include but not be limited to:  Provision of information and limited pastoral care, and referral to LTU services and external agencies as appropriate to onshore international students, with respect to matters such as adjustment, homesickness, family problems, academic progress, health and finance.
